The narrator tests the Ascentis exoskeleton legs during an overnight backpacking trip with his dog, Wolfie. He evaluates the device's ability to reduce physical strain, its battery life, and its performance on varied terrain, concluding that the bionic assistance significantly makes hiking easier and less exhausting.
Alright folks we're here with Wolfie.
We're going to be doing some backpacking, bionic backpacking.
I'm sure you guys have seen these.
Everybody's seen the ads for these things. I got myself a pair
of Ascentis exoskeleton legs for hiking.
So let's uh let's do an overnight backpacking trip with the
dog. See if I can keep up with them while we test all
while we test out these bionic backpacking
legs. I tried these on at home to test them out
but I have not done any backpacking or even hiking
with them on so backpacking overnight with Wolfie should
be a real deal test. All right I got them
all plugged in time to turn this bad boy on and it
feels crazy they're literally moving my legs.
Quick side note I forgot to mention in the video
that I was wearing the hip belt backwards
it's fully customizable
and it works like that you can wear it however you want
but the intended use is this battery pack part goes right there nicely
in the small of your back
but with me wearing
that big hiking backpack it felt better personally having it this way
it's totally up to you
totally customizable
and it works well
either way sit stay
the Ascentis
exoskeleton is designed to be exceptionally quiet light
and compact it's so seamless that it easily
fits into your daily routine,
and it weighs the same as a 14-inch ultralight laptop.
The final version will be even
lighter at just 1.75 kilograms.
I had to fix your backpack, buddy.
Hold on.
You know, ever since I saw these, I was super interested in them.
Because of my hindrance in my hand,
it makes me think that, like, if they had these for
arms or something, like, they wouldn't have been such a concern for me.
Anybody who has, like,
a little bit of an impediment or something difficult doing, why
not use a little bit of help like
this and these so far are propelling my legs
like crazy it's such a weird feeling I got
to tell you it's good it's pushing
me up this little bit of a hill
and the claims are pretty nuts it's saying it
reduces leg strain by 35% it lightens up
your load by 30 kilograms and can even
boost speed up to 17.4 miles an hour it
also lowers your heart rate by 15 to 30
30%
during
activity
allowing
you
to
go
further
with
less
effort.
See
you
come
on
bud.
Hey,
hey
boy
This looks like
an awesome camp
nice scenery
flat ground
Wolfie approved. I think we're calling this home for the night
Now I haven't been hiking for 10 hours probably about two hours
But the Ascent is exoskeleton with this battery before
the modified the final version
this gives you 10 hours of hiking time
or roughly 12 and a half miles on just a
single charge and that's definitely enough
for a full day's hike the final
model of these will feature
a detachable dual battery system extending use to 20
hours or 25 miles
one day you do all
found something
interesting
over there
wondering how it would
do on this uneven bouldery jumbly rocky stuff they're
totally fine I'm still being able to tiptoe
and put my feet exactly where I
need to. What's going on?
Well I'm gonna set up my tent
and take it easy so I'm gonna give
these guys a break,
power them down and it's nice and easy coming off. A little
bit easier than going on but it just takes
a minute to get used to it I think like
anything. My boys up here for now.
As I was on a strenuous hike I
obviously did not bring both
pairs but there's two modules the leg ones
and also these hip ones. These
provide assistive force during flexion like
when stepping or climbing stairs to
reduce the load on the quads and calves
and stabilize force during extension
they relieve joint stress and assist in push-off power
I'm going to use over
this tent this year.
I'm sure I will for years to come too.
It would be nice
if my dog like
you know hung out
with me. Be cool.
Stuck around.
He is a really good dog
and we do have a good bond I swear.
He's just a pretty husky like
pretty heavy on the husky side.
You know he's on the husky side.
You get down
to negative two tonight,
and I have a negative two quilt
was frosty this morning
We shall see how I fare
Well, hey you came back you came back mr. Butt
Zoe's
Good boy
good boy.
Come here boy
That's enough, that's enough, that's enough.
He's like, what are you doing to me then?
Come here, boy.
Come on, I love you, buddy.
You're a good dog.
Come here.
Come here, weirdo.
Come here,
weirdo.
That's my boy.
I've been in here with Doug a couple times,
and we got into the salmon.
So, it's a similar time of year, too.
I'm hoping to replicate that.
I'll go give it a shot anyway.
Worst thing is, it'll burn energy, you know?
Worst thing is, it'll burn the dog out.
that's a pretty good day in my book hiking down
to the river with the dog
a lot of care in the world man leave all
that nonsense out here
probably just gonna bring small tackle box
in my pocket type thing maybe not
even a tackle box just put a lure on
what a distinguished gentleman
a
tree
branch
wolfies in the river sweet spot
nice
and
deep
there
too
this dog he always comes back
though you know I'm turning back I'm gonna go back
to camp collect a decent amount of firewood
because i would like to have a fire tonight
and uh chill out a bit i got a book
and this guy by that time hopefully i will have tired him out
so i'm gonna walk this way now and try to put
the a fright in him considering he's down the trail
behind me thinking we're both walking that way
but now i'm walking this way and he's gonna turn
around expecting me to be there i'll be way far away
from him hoping that he realizes like oh
maybe I should stick a bit closer
and I wouldn't do this normally but this is a
wolf normal things don't work he's his own man
and I love that about him but
we're going this way now the Ascent is functions like
a shock absorber cutting
knee wear and peak joint pressure by up
to 50% ensuring lasting comfort man
these things adapt to your movements
in real time it almost feels like a natural
extension of your body it's got
an intelligent algorithm that learns your
walking pattern and gait making it more responsive
and intuitive over time oh
hello what are you doing
dude I'm glad you came back
all right let's let's go
to camp I could definitely tell
the difference I hiked out there it seemed
all easy peachy keen everything
was just strolling along looking at birds and
plants and trees then hiking back I decided
to turn them off to see if I
could see a difference and holy smokes
I couldn't believe how far I was I
actually felt it coming back
not to say you can't hike without them not to say I
haven't hiked without them
or I won't hike without them before in the future
but I noticed the difference when I turned them off it was considerably
easier
walking
that
way
than
walking
back.
Good boy today. That's a big ol' heaping pile of food for you.
Okay, good boy.
Bunch of
driftwood
stuff,
beaver
chews and
whatnot.
Thanks.
Stick around buddy or else I'm gonna have to tie you up for the night.
Good boy, good boy, wolf.
Leaves right
down, what
a good dog you
are.
Be skimpy on the firewood,
cause there wasn't much around and whatnot, but look at that.
I don't have to skimp on the firewood, I'm warm.
Love it, lovely.
Thank
you
for
food,
as
always,
Reminds
me of
you.
I've taken my wife for granted
for very many years,
and I see the error of my ways now.
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm going to be better.
I'm not, I was never a bad person to her,
but I should have appreciated everything she does
for a lot longer than I realized.
That's the God-honest truth.
All right, lid on there, let her sit.
There's a little bit of extra water
because I didn't do my two-pot method.
I just eyed it, I did wrong.
One thing I like about the Ascension
is that you can personalize them.
They're fully modular and customizable.
can swap magnetic covers
and patterns in the finalized version they're going to
modify hardware and software modules
for a fully customizable exoskeleton they're
also going to be releasing official accessories so you can tailor your
exoskeleton
to
specific
outdoor
uses all
right
guys I'm
going
to bed
it's very
chilly wish me luck good night morning
it's 8:20 I've been awake for quite some
time but it is a cold cold morning
and I've been dreading getting up but I got
a pee and it's time to get up so let's do that
up pretty warm it's cold
this morning you go boy
there must have been
something going on last night in the middle
of the night Wolfie Wolfie was
tied up he slept outside of my tent
but he got he was right next to my door and
And he got agitated at around 4 in the morning
I was up and looking around and smelling the air and stuff.
We're basically right on the trail here
This is just a little ways off the trail
So it's a corridor for animals for sure
Animals take the path of least resistance
just like people do keeping in tradition
with last night's soupy soupy spaghetti
We got a coffee oatmeal soup mix.
It's very wet
I threw an instant coffee in there too to try
to soak it up, but it's warm on my hand
And that's really what counts right now.
All right, we're going to strap this bad boy on get to hiking wolf
He's already gone. I'm sure he'll come back like he does
One of the keys to get this on
Proper is to take your time when you're putting it
on for the first couple times actually and get it
The level the height level right
because you can adjust the height level the whole way
This whole thing can jump up or drop down depending on what you need
I took my own advice and I spent some time
tailoring this pair to my
Specific skinny self and it is riding much better than yesterday
And I can feel myself being propelled up these hills getting out
of here is like almost all Hill gradual uphill
And I can feel it pushing the backs
of my legs forward every time every step
feel these things pushing me uphill that backs
your legs they're like pushing them forward
it's like and then i had them on different modes
and stuff but i found the orange mode the best
for me we're going up those these it's in red now
because i was just testing out but it pushes the back
of your legs up as you're walking like it like propels you
a bit they definitely do work i can
feel them moving me and and making hiking easier now
if you're interested in these ascents you can
check out the link in the description there'll
be all you need to know there
thanks Ascentis for letting me try
a pair of these out thanks you guys for
watching thanks Wolfie for being such a good boy
we're gonna drive home get Will some flowers and
