A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Panama on Friday, collapsing buildings and roads and injuring at least two people, with no deaths reported at the time of the report. The shallow tremor was felt across the country of around 4.5 million people, triggering panic and evacuations in Panama City, about 200 kilometres (120 miles) from the epicentre. Videos showed water spilling from a high-rise rooftop pool and a bridge over the Panama Canal shaking as vehicles crossed it. The US Geological Survey initially estimated the quake at magnitude 8.0 before revising it to 7.7, while a tsunami warning for the eastern Pacific was later lifted.
