Trump’s unexpected praise for CNN ignites media firestorm

US President Donald Trump thanked CNN for airing polls showing high approval ratings, contrasting them with what he called the "fake news media’s" biased coverage.

“The fake news media is trying to demoralise Republican voters with bad journalism and rigged polls,” Mr Trump said.

“Just before we leave, I thought we'd put up a couple of charts of all groups from CNN.

“Thank you, CNN.”
