Birds and Animals can develop attachment with kindhearted human beings. A bird develops attachment with a prince's statue and the soul in the statue had interaction with the bird and the bird sacrificed it's life for tthe prince and he sacrificed his life for his people.
Asmat Guru Bhiyanamaha, Jai Sriman Narayana
Once upon a time,
The statue of a happy prince was erected on a huge tower.
It was made of gold leaves.
A ruby was fixed as the button of his coat.
There were two sapphires fixed as his eyeballs.
The statue looked so beautiful
and drew the attention of all the people in his kingdom.
The weather in the north turned to be very cold.
All the sparrows started migrating towards the south.
During the flight of those birds, a little sparrow lost its way
and flew towards the statue of the happy prince.
What a beautiful statue it is.
I have never seen such a beautiful one before.
Anyway, today I can't fly anymore.
I will take rest here tonight.
Saying so, the little sparrow landed on the foot of the prince.
When it was about to sleep, a drop of water fell on its head.
Is it raining?
It said to itself and looked at the sky.
The sky was very clear.
There were no clouds and the drop fell on its body.
It looked at the statue
and realized those were the tears of the happy prince.
What happened my dear prince?
Why are you shedding tears?
Your name indicates that you are happy always, asked the little bird.
Yes, my dear sparrow, once I was a happy prince.
When I was alive, I enjoyed my life in the palace.
I didn't even know the meaning of the word misery.
I thought all people were happy in my kingdom.
But after my death, when I was placed on this tall tower,
I am able to see the condition of my people.
there is suffering seen in my kingdom.
Once look at the poor hut. He pointed the hut and continued.
A baby is suffering from terrible fever.
Its mother is too poor to give medicine to the child.
Can you do me a favor? Requested the prince.
Why not, my dear prince? You gave me shelter.
I will show my gratitude to you in this way.
Come on, how can I help you? Asked the sparrow.
You pick out the ruby from my coat and place it at their bedside,
said the prince.
The bird picked it up,
flew towards the hut and dropped it on their bed.
The lady saw the ruby.
There was glow on her face.
Who dropped it?
Perhaps God helped me in this way.
Now I can save my baby.
She had taken it,
sold it and purchased milk to her baby and saved its life.
There was sense of satisfaction clearly seen in the eyes of the prince.
Sure, what else can I do for you? asked the little bird.
Once he there, he pointed towards the house of a writer.
The prince further said,
he had not eaten anything for two days due to his poverty.
Though he is a great writer,
not able to write anything due to his weakness.
Can you pick out the sapphire from one of my eyes and give it to him?
On hearing his words of the prince, the sparrow disagreed.
No, my dear friend, I can't do it.
You look so handsome because of your sapphires in your eyes.
I can't see you in that way, the kind prince said.
If my sapphire saves a person's life, it will give me more happiness.
Please save the man.
The little bird could not say anything,
picked it out from his eyes and dropped it at the
window sill of the writer.
The next day, the writer saw the sapphire and was wondering.
He looked all around but did not find anyone.
He thought that God had answered his prayers
and helped him in that way.
If I sell this precious stone,
I can live for many more days with that money then
I get some income on my writings, the writer said to himself.
The prince felt happy to see glow on
the face of the writer. Can you give me leave now?
asked the bird. Please friend, it's my last wish.
See there a girl is going to sell her matchboxes.
Due to the rain, those are wet and of no use.
If she doesn't sell them, the whole family die of hunger.
Please take another sapphire from my second eye and give it to her,
said the prince pointing the
guard. What friend? I can't do it.
You will become completely blind. Think about it, said the bird
feeling sad. I would rather like to be blind instead
of watching the miserable life of people,
said the prince in sorrowful tone.
How kind you are, my dear prince. I will surely do it.
Saying so, it picked out another sapphire
and dropped it into the basket of the girl
who was crying when her matchboxes were useless.
On seeing the sapphire, the girl thanked the god
for solving her problem in that way.
Then the sparrow reached the statue and landed on his
shoulders. The prince said, Thank you very much, my dear friend.
You saved the lives of three.
You can go now. The prince gave permission to the little bird.
No, I can't leave you now.
You became completely blind.
From today onwards, I will be your eyes and narrate the stories of
your kingdom, said the sparrow.
Since then, it was narrating the stories of needy people
and on being requested by the prince,
it took out all the gold leaves from the statue
and distributing to those in need.
Since then, in happy prince's kingdom,
no suffering was seen.
But the statue of the prince was no more beautiful. The little bird,
because of its continuous service,
even in cold weather, it fell at the feet of the statue
and died. A huge sound was heard from the statue.
The heart of the prince which was made of lead
broke into pieces.
The statue too fell on the little sparrow's dead body.
The next day higher
officials of the government came to the place
and talked to one another. How beautiful the statue
used to be. How ugly it appears now.
Those heartless officers ordered their workers to
throw the prince's statue and the dead body of the bird into dustbin.
The Almighty called his men
and ordered them to bring the noble souls of the prince
and the sparrow to his abode. They were
brought. He looked at them happily and said, I love the souls like you.
You sacrificed your
entire life for others. I am very much pleased with you.
From now onwards, you can enjoy your
blissful life which is eternal.
Since then they are enjoying the blissful company of the Lord
singing his glories. The noble lives of the happy prince
and the sparrow remain forever in our
hearts. This is what we must think about our fellow beings.
Following the principle,
serve all beings as service to God. Thank you.
