Name: Sounder

A deep and insightful drama about the Morgan family, poor landowners in Louisiana in 1933. When the father of the family, Nathan Lee, is sentenced to hard labor for a petty crime, the family's world changes dramatically. Mother Rebecca is forced to keep the children together and support the household, while the eldest son, a boy of about eleven, sets off on a long journey to see his father. His journey turns into a test and a lesson in growing up: he meets a devoted black teacher who gives him hope and a new vision for the future. The film shows the strength of family ties, perseverance in the fight against poverty and injustice, and the desire for education and dignity even in the most difficult conditions.
