When park ranger Brian Kessler discovers a massive nest-like structure nearly 40 feet above the ground in Alaska's Tongass National Forest, he initially has no idea what could have built it. Inside, however, he finds a bed, blankets, survival books, and old newspaper clippings connected to a mysterious disappearance.

The investigation becomes even more shocking when a strange figure returns to the tree carrying an axe. Brian soon discovers that the person hiding in the forest isn't an animal or a dangerous stranger, but a woman named Ruth who disappeared years earlier and allowed her hometown to believe she was dead.
