Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada and Quebec are at a “crucial time” following the Parti Québécois’ victory in Monday’s provincial election.

Speaking to reporters ahead of a federal cabinet meeting, Carney said the election result should prompt immediate action rather than waiting for developments several years down the road.

“This is not a time to wait for something a few years down the road. It’s a time to act. It’s a time for boldness,” Carney said.

Carney said he spoke with Quebec premier-designate Paul St-Pierre Plamondon on Tuesday morning. Their discussion focused on infrastructure investment and support for workers affected by US tariffs.

The Parti Québécois won 59 seats in the provincial election, giving it a minority government. The result puts Quebec’s political future and the relationship between Quebec City and Ottawa in renewed focus.

Carney’s comments come as Canada continues to navigate economic pressures linked to US trade policy, tariffs and the need for investment in infrastructure and jobs.
