Wesley Silvestri, 33 years old, Valencia, California.
This is my story.
I'm a regular guy with a full-time job.
I'm a real estate agent, but I have all these passions that I make time for.
I love the fact that I can get out there, fail repeatedly, and then one day succeed.
I think to myself, that's the trigger. I got that.
I hate the word can't. It drives me insane.
Don't you quit!
Banana!
Go!
Perfect.
Alright, course is set!
I was working as a bartender with one of my buddies, and we ended up being roommates.
His goal was to run the LA Marathon.
To train for it, he would sign up for mud runs.
One day, I go over to his room.
I knock on the door.
Ian, are you there?
And I open the door, and I see him. He's lifeless in his bed.
He died of cardiomyopathy, which is the deterioration of the heart.
I can't even express, I can't even make words out of this.
The very next week, he had signed up for a Spartan race.
I put his name on my back, and I run the race for him.
And when I cross the finish line, and I look at the medal, and she had handed me two medals.
And I just break down.
That was devastating, but also at the same time, was the most motivating thing for him to change.
From just working out just because, to working out because he had a purpose.
I started training every single day. I was totally dedicated into it.
I turned my training to obstacle course racing.
Ninja Warrior was the ultimate.
I put in my submission video. I did not get chosen that year.
That is not going to stop me.
Fourteen days in the walk-on line, I watched eight people run in front of me all fail, miserably.
The producer walks me up to the starting line.
Hey, why don't you go be the first one to finish?
Okay, I'm on it.
Season nine, I was the first one to hit the buzzer in LA.
He's a go-getter. The second he wakes up, he's like, okay, this is what I'm going to do.
He's just a ball of energy all day long.
He will go to any obstacle and be like, okay, I'm going to get from A to B, no matter what.
Once I hit the buzzer in LA, I started looking for places to train.
At the time, there was no ninja gyms, and so I hit the workshop.
I'm just going to create my own.
Putting the pencil to the paper and just creating whatever I see in my mind.
I can literally hold it in my hands. That's what I love.
I'm addicted to that.
As soon as I saw it on the show, I thought, if I can fit it in the truck,
and I can attach it to the beach, I will make it.
Ninja Beach started off as just a place for me to train,
and now it's become a free, open to the community.
Anybody who wants to train with me is more than welcome to.
Keep going!
Get off that thing! Nice!
I show houses. I close deals.
I meet new clients.
Every day of the week, consistency has always been key for me.
It's just continuing to show up with family,
continuing to show up with work,
continuing to show up at the gym,
even the gym being my garage.
So if I can pull away and just shoot some pool,
chip off balls in my backyard, grab an ice bath.
That's what creates the work life.
Balance.
When was the last time you did something for the first time?
Every single week, I think to myself,
I need to do something new to make myself 1% better.
Stop thinking about, I can't do this, I don't know what to do.
You have to fail to get better.
That's just it for me.
And guys, to finish my workout, what I love to do is the Upside Down Assault Bike.
I'm kidding!
