Robert de Visée: Allemande "La Royalle" || Theorbo solo, Tuomas Kourula

Of all of de Visée's pieces, this one is probably the one I heard and loved first. De Visée is always a master of refined style, but even so, here everything seems to be so full of natural inspiration and powerful expression that I can't help thinking that even de Visée himself must have been especially fond of this piece. I've made videos of several theorbo pieces by Robert de Visée, a musician to French kings (links to videos at the end of this text). This Allemande has that royal connection made clear in the title "La Royalle". If the music seems to be rather more intimate than majestic, it probably is because de Visée played for the king in his private chambers in the evening, when he was going to sleep.
