F/A-XX: Everything We Know About the Navy's New Fighter
Oct 3, 2026
The US Navy just awarded the contract for its next stealth fighter to Boeing, and that means the Navy’s 6th-generation carrier fighter is all but certain to be a carrier-capable variant of the F-47 that’s already in development for the U.S. Air Force as a replacement for the air superiority legend, F-22 Raptor.
This contract award adds more than $20 billion to the pool of developmental funding for this 6th generation fighter, and it increases the number of stealth fighters on order from 180, for the U.S. Air Force, to more than 900, as these jets step in to replace outgoing F/A-18 Super Hornets and EA-18G Growlers as well.
