It's been a busy couple of months, but I'm back with another Expedition 33 cover!
L'amour d'une soeur stood out to me for a few reasons. It has a lovely delicate and melancholy feeling that I love, but it was also originally recorded on what I believe is a baroque triple harp - a reference to Clea, of course, but also an invitation to play this on my modern pedal harp! (Before you ask, it's a Lyon & Healy Style 23.)
It's so interesting to me how different the two instruments sound, and I had a fun time shaping the phrasing with this one and deciding when to try and emulate the sound of the baroque harp and when to lean into the fuller resonance of the pedal harp.
In particular you'll notice some very intentional damping in the left hand, often only damping a single string at a time. This is because the baroque harp has a much drier sound in the bass, with much less ringing, so to keep it sounding clean and clear I needed to make sure I was damping specific strings very rhythmically.
Lastly, in case you didn't notice, the chord section is the same chord progression as the main "chorus" of Alicia.
