Trump 'Traps' NATO Before Midterms: 'Open The Fuel Vault Now..' | US Forces NATO Amid Iran War

President Donald Trump has put fresh pressure on NATO allies and other G7 partners as soaring fuel prices add to the economic strain from the Iran war. The Trump administration urged European countries including France and Germany to release emergency diesel reserves, warning that Washington could restrict U.S. diesel exports if Europe did not act.

The pressure was followed by a major move: G7 countries agreed to release 100 million barrels of crude oil and diesel from emergency reserves over four months, with a substantial diesel release planned within the first 20 days. The agreement also includes a commitment by G7 members not to impose energy export restrictions on one another.

Trump had been pushing for greater fuel supplies as the Iran war disrupted energy flows and prices climbed. The administration has also been focused on lowering fuel costs ahead of the November U.S. midterm elections. Trump ultimately said the United States would not impose the threatened diesel export ban.

The latest move comes after an earlier 400-million-barrel emergency oil release coordinated by the International Energy Agency in March following the Iran conflict. The new 100-million-barrel release is intended to provide additional supply as global energy markets remain under pressure.
