After the Mid-Autumn Festival, unsold mooncakes in China were gradually removed from store shelves. A feed factory in Hebei Province told media outlets that prices for recycled mooncakes were about 1,000 yuan per ton for five-kernel mooncakes and 800 yuan per ton for fruit-filled and red bean mooncakes, as long as they had no mold or unusual smell. That works out to only 40 to 50 cents per pound, even lower than the market prices of ordinary wheat and corn.
