The Final Touches: How to Bring a Painting to Life - Part 2

Welcome to the final part of this painting series! It’s time to add the last touches and details that bring the piece to life. I truly hope you like how it turned out.
One of the most important principles I follow is to always start with big shapes and large value groups, then gradually break them down into smaller, more refined details.
Throughout the process, I focus on soft transitions everywhere, eliminating sharp lines. Even when I need to introduce a mid-tone, I make sure to soften the edges. My technique involves making subtle changes in color and temperature while keeping the overall shape and values tightly grouped.
The dark areas, like the shirt, are crucial for adding depth. Using a very dark shape next to light shapes and highlights is what makes them pop perfectly. This is why it's always a good idea to work from dark to light—it’s much easier to brighten up a color than it is to darken a light one without making it muddy.
My palette for this painting is:
Titanium White
Yellow Ochre
Cadmium Yellow
Red Oxide
Cadmium Red
Ultramarine Blue
