Crispy Wood-Fire Roasted Pork in the Vietnamese Highlands | A Day in My Forest Farm

Today, I bring two whole pigs back to my remote forest farm in Vietnam after a long, exhausting journey deep across the mountain passes.
Back at the homestead, the traditional preparation begins—a true taste of Vietnamese rural life. I boil them with local mountain herbs and spices before slowly deep-frying them whole over an open wood fire until the skin turns a deep, golden, and shatteringly crispy brown.
But this time, the journey doesn’t end at the farm. One of the whole crispy pigs has already been ordered by a customer, while the second is carefully portioned out to take down to the village to share and sell to the local neighbors.
On my way back, I stop by an elderly neighbor’s house to gift her a warm, hearty portion - a small gesture of the warm community spirit we cherish here in the mountains.
After everything is settled, I return to my forest sanctuary for a peaceful afternoon - tending to the garden, feeding the animals, and watching another quiet day fade into twilight.
As night falls, the lights of my new wooden hut flicker on once again. I prepare a warm, simple dinner, sitting quietly beneath the soft glow, surrounded by the silent, majestic mountains and forests.
From carrying two whole pigs across the mountain trails, to traditional cooking, sharing with villagers, and finally returning home for a quiet evening - this was another unforgettable day of Vietnamese mountain life.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. I hope you enjoy this peaceful story, and I’ll see you in the next one. 🌿❤️
