Nieves González was born in Oviedo in 1988. In 2006 she began her studies in Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, obtaining her degree in 2011. She is currently pursuing a master's degree at the same faculty.
After several years working almost exclusively with drawing and, above all, painting, he is currently experimenting with other expressive techniques, such as collage, photomontages, sculpture, posters… trying to enrich his work, which almost always deals with the theme of food and its influence on our lives.
Nieves González has held exhibitions at La Casa del Pueblo in Madrid, the Casa de Campo Zoo in Madrid, the Llavín Cultural Association's exhibition hall, and several group exhibitions at the Fine Arts Faculty's exhibition hall. In 2012, she was selected by the Principality of Asturias' Young Artists Program to hold a solo exhibition at the Borrón Gallery.
Statement
Nieves González shows us with her work her particular way of understanding the woman/food relationship which, currently, she works from two perspectives: the edible woman (series Deliriums at the table) and the conflicts in the kitchen (series War in the kitchen), both treated through a wide variety of techniques and procedures, ranging from traditional drawing to computer photomontages, including collage, sculpture, packaging, layout, etc.
“We love women. We have often tortured ourselves with a thousand greedy kisses in the desire to devour one. Naked, they always seemed tragically clothed to us. Their hearts, embraced by the supreme joy of love, seemed to us the ideal fruit to bite, chew, and suck...” (MARINETTI and FILLIÀ, The Futurist Kitchen). Woman, although perhaps only the Futurists dared to say it so clearly, has always been man's preferred food, and not only from a physical and sexual perspective, as might initially be assumed, but also in a more metaphorical way, since, throughout history, man has always ended up devouring her.
This reflection forms the basis of the first part, "Deliriums at the Table," which ironically describes the aforementioned situation and culminates in "War in the Kitchen," which raises a possible rebellion that could have occurred, or could occur, as a result of the problem discussed, but which can also be interpreted as the inevitable and continuous struggle that, today, continues to take place between the feminine world and the food world with the appearance of new conflicts, such as the concern about diets, anorexia, etc.
