Elizabeth married Prince Philip on November 20, 1947. Their first two children, Charles and Anne, were born before Elizabeth became Queen in 1952. Their sons Andrew and Edward followed in 1960 and 1964, becoming the first children born to a reigning British monarch since Queen Victoria’s era.

For more than seven decades, Queen Elizabeth II balanced an unprecedented reign with life as a wife, mother and grandmother. Prince Philip remained beside her through most of that extraordinary period until his death in 2021.

Their eldest son Charles eventually succeeded his mother as King Charles III following Queen Elizabeth II’s death on September 8, 2022, while Anne and Edward continued carrying out prominent roles connected with the Royal Family.
