How to spend the perfect week on Ireland's wild west coast 🇮🇪

With its rolling green hills, abundance of wildlife and friendly locals, Ireland is one of the best places in the world for a road trip. And the best journey of them all has to be the wild Atlantic way, which spans 2600km along the Atlantic Ocean. In this travel guide we'll take you from the remote corners of Donegal to the windswept mysterious Aran islands, learning about ancient traditions, Celtic heritage, and meeting friendly locals along the way.

We'll begin our trip by heading to Malin Head, one of the most northerly points in Ireland. From there we'll make our way to Glenevin waterfall, one of the more accessible waterfalls in Donegal. Next we'll explore a ruined fort overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the nearby fishing pier before driving through the Gap of Mamore and the Urris Hills.

The next day we'll get up bright and early to discover one of the most scenic loop drives on the Wild Atlantic Way, the Fanad Head Peninsula. There we'll spy the largest sea arch in island and climb up one of Ireland's iconic lighthouses. From there it's a short drive to Doe Castle before we end the day at Horn Head.

The following day we'll explore inland Donegal by heading to Errigal where it's hard to miss the highest mountain in Donegal and the impossibly blue waters of Dunlewey Lough. It's then time to explore the ruined church before heading back to the coast where we'll walk right up to the abandoned boat, Bád Eddie.

One of the most iconic sights in Donegal are the Slieve League cliffs, some of the highest sea cliffs in Europe and so we'll spend a day driving around the Slieve League peninsula, admiring coastal views and walking right up to the cliffs themselves.
