The Snow Queen | by Hans Christian Andersen

As we change from children to adults, what is most important to keep with us? Gerda discovers the answer, as she searches for her best friend Kay, who has come under the spell of the Snow Queen.

Mr. Paul reads aloud "The Snow Queen" by Hans Christian Andersen, illustrated by P.J. Lynch. This long, richly detailed fairytale picture book is perfect either as a bedtime story at home, or for story time at school. With seven chapters, it can also be broken up over several days. With vivid illustrations and memorable characters, this fun story book adaptation of the classic Andersen tale is excellent for students in second grade, third grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade.

If you ever had a close friend whose behavior toward you suddenly changed for the worse, you may identify with the main character Gerda. And if reaching a certain age suddenly made you mean to your former childhood friends, you might appreciate what Kay is going through.
