Fall kitchen decorating with thrifted finds, natural autumn decor and DIY decorations. In this Rural Refurb episode, I decorate my kitchen step by step, creating an autumn tablescape, hanging basket displays and seasonal arrangements using dried hydrangeas, foraged foliage, charity shop finds and auction purchases.
Starting above the dining table, I turn three woven tote bags into hanging autumn decorations using chicken wire, chains, dried bracken, meadowsweet and faux fall leaves. I show how I pick hydrangeas for drying, including Annabelle and mophead hydrangeas, and reuse dried hop garlands for decorating with natural materials.
For the autumn table setting, I repurpose £15 charity shop curtains into a no-sew tablecloth with frayed edges. A handmade magnolia leaf garland forms the table centrepiece, using dried magnolia grandiflora leaves attached to a horse lead rope with glue and wire. Brass candlesticks, red, orange and brown candles, stoneware dinner plates and vintage coloured glassware complete the tablescape.
The auction haul includes a George Butler of Sheffield Kings pattern cutlery set, silver-plated tableware, mirrors and a vintage Thai cutlery set bought for £28 hammer price. I demonstrate the baking soda and aluminium foil method used to clean my silver-plated finds. The Thai cutlery is washed separately with soap and water.
Decorating continues across the kitchen dressers, countertops and two islands. I combine stoneware flagons, a French confit pot, baskets, vintage books and an auction mirror with dried flowers and autumn foliage. I also revisit my DIY pumpkin makeovers, including faux stone-effect pumpkins and raffia-wrapped plastic pumpkins, and I have refreshed an older decorative pumpkin with dark wax.
