Starter Set Wars! Lionel vs. Menards - The Battle of the O Gauge Trains!

Today we are tackling a massive misconception in the hobby. You see, when most people think of 3 rail O gauge model trains, they assume they're a relic of the past. They think of the trains that Dad or Grandpa used to have, but they are completely unaware that brand new, cutting-edge O gauge trains are actively being made right now in 2026.
If you are looking for a 3-rail O gauge starter set today there are two options, Lionel, the firm traditionally associated with O gauge toy and model trains, and the modern disruptor shaking up the market, Menards. If you’re looking to buy your very first set or want to expand your layout, which one should you choose? Let’s break it down!
