This home stands on a corner of a plot of land passed down through generations in Kyoto.

This site once held a main house, a detached sukiya-style residence inspired by traditional tea-house architecture, and buildings arranged around a garden.

The new home preserves as much of the old wooden fence as possible, while reusing roof tiles, garden stones, and a traditional stone water basin from the previous house.

By organizing the home around the garden, the design carries memories of the former home and garden—and the time the family spent there—into a new chapter of daily life.

The living and dining rooms overlook the garden, while a shared family workspace forms part of the same arrangement. Views across the garden bring these spaces together, adding layers and depth to the interior.

The character of Kyoto’s streetscape blends with contemporary family life.
Take your time exploring this new home, where pieces of the past remain part of everyday life.
