What Was Just Found Off Victoria's Coast Was Hiding Half a Billion Dollars

A survey vessel was out mapping seafloor for a wind farm when its equipment picked up something that had nothing to do with turbines. A shipwreck, sitting almost exactly where a diver named Mark Ryan had spent eighteen years searching for it and coming up empty every time. That accidental find closed the book on the City of Hobart, gone since 1877, and pulled attention straight back to a second ship still missing off the same coastline, one carrying enough gold to be worth half a billion dollars today. The Madagascar sailed out of Port Phillip Heads in August of 1853 with around 160 people on board and simply never arrived. No wreck. No gold. No real answer, even now, about what happened to any of them.
