Two stars stepped into the spotlight when Japan faced India in the quarterfinals of the AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship 2026. Japan’s Ran Takahashi brought his explosive attacks, sharp serving and all-around play. Across six matches in the tournament, the outside hitter scored 96 points and was later named the championship’s Most Valuable Player. On the other side stood India’s captain, Jerome Vinith Charles. Known as “Jet Jerome,” the powerful opposite hitter scored 50 points across India’s four tournament matches.

On September 11, 2026, the two met at Kitakyushu City Gymnasium in Japan. Takahashi led everyone with 14 points, including four aces and one block. Jerome fought back with 11 points to lead India, but Japan took control and won in straight sets: 25–17, 25–15, 25–19.

Yuki Ishikawa and Yuji Nishida added 12 points each for Japan, while Larry Ik Evbade-Dan delivered four blocks. The victory sent Japan into the semifinals and brought India’s tournament to an end.
