MAJESTICS - Naissance d'une Photographie - (The Birth of a Photograph).

Over a period of twelve years, Swiss landscape photographer Samuel Bitton photographed mountain environments across Switzerland, working repeatedly in changing weather, seasons and light to create a long-term body of work. Published in 2015 as the book MAJESTICS, the project reflects a sustained photographic practice built around patience, careful observation and an understanding of natural light rather than single expeditions or isolated images. The accompanying documentary follows Bitton in the field as he explains the process behind producing these photographs and the decisions involved in creating each image.

Rather than concentrating solely on finished photographs, MAJESTICS – Naissance d'une photographie documents the practical realities of landscape photography. The film records location scouting, waiting for suitable atmospheric conditions, composition, the use of natural light and the relationship between terrain, weather and timing. It provides an insight into the discipline required for landscape photography, demonstrating how a single photograph may be the result of repeated visits over many years. The production was created by 5 Elements Production and released in 2015.
