GERMANY in Deep Trouble

Germany’s economy is under growing pressure. Government debt has risen sharply, borrowing is accelerating, interest costs are climbing and German bond yields have reached their highest level in around 15 years.
At the same time, Europe’s largest economy has barely grown for years. Its automotive and manufacturing industries face expensive energy, intense Chinese competition and major job losses, while Germany’s ageing population is putting further pressure on public finances.
In this video, I examine Germany’s rising debt, weakening GDP, higher interest rates, industrial problems and the dramatic growth of the right-wing AfD—and ask whether Germany’s enormous debt-funded spending programme can rescue the economy or create an even bigger problem.
