Massachusetts drivers ask Gov. Healey to extend gas tax suspension proposal amid skyrocketing prices

With gas prices now around $4.40 a gallon in Massachusetts, Gov. Maura Healey is proposing a temporary break for drivers. Healey is filing a bill to suspend the state’s 24-cent-per-gallon gas tax for two months on both regular gas and diesel.

“It’s not only showing up at the pump, it’s showing up in the price of everything,” she said. “People in America need relief, and as governor, I want to do what I can to give relief to people here in Massachusetts.”

The governor said the goal is to put money back in drivers’ pockets as prices continue to climb, a result of the war in Iran, which the governor is calling on President Trump to end.
