But things actually started getting weird way before the cameras were even out. The driver, Leslie Hines, a 12-year Navy veteran, reported that this guy didn't just walk up to her truck. He actually followed her on foot for three whole blocks while she was trying to do her job. He apparently convinced himself that his neighborhood had a no soliciting policy and that an ice cream truck stopping for families was a major rule violation. She posted a video to her Instagram to provide more context on the nightmare they were living through. She revealed that the situation hadn't ended when the camera stopped rolling the first time. Instead, the man returned to their house even more aggressive and unhinged after seeing himself trending online. We've lived here for almost 10 years, but we did not know him. We filed a report. The police basically said there was nothing they could really do because there wasn't, you know, he didn't step foot on our property. He did eventually leave and there wasn't a legit threat towards us. So they just kind of took the report. Well, of course the video took off and went viral and he showed up at our house yesterday. My kids were outside playing and he approached our kids and said go get your parents. I want to talk to them. So my husband went outside to speak with him at first thinking maybe he's going to apologize. Maybe because this video kind of blew up. Maybe he sees how crazy he was acting. Maybe he wants to apologize. That was not the case. He started yelling, my husband, blaming us for threats, threats he's receiving, which let me say we do not support any violence as far as anyone threatening to go after him, threatening harm on him. We don't support that and we have never encouraged that. We have never supported that. Like I said, we didn't even know this guy. We didn't even know his name until this all went viral. My husband tried to explain to him, you know, that's not on us. We haven't done anything to encourage that. We don't even know you. We don't, you know, the video wasn't even posted by us, you know, but it just kept escalating. So I pulled my kids in. I locked him in the house. I called the police. They came back out. Another neighbor had stopped because they saw him approaching our kids and tried to get him to leave. And they stayed until the police came. So thank you to my wonderful neighbors who have been looking out for us. Police came. They tried to talk to him. That conversation didn't seem to be productive. And then, of course, they talked to us. They said they were going to take another report. They said they're just adding it to, you know, what they've got so far. And he did not step foot on our property. He didn't make a true threat. So they can't, their hands were tied. They couldn't do anything. But they said, you know, if this continues to happen, there will be a pattern to show, you know, where we could actually go and harass him or something, I guess. As the story continued to spread, the man in the video was identified as Jake Rearson. The most disturbing revelation was that Jake worked as a caregiver for a local family with a member who has special needs. When the family saw the viral video, they were devastated. Even though they needed the daily support, they knew they couldn't have someone with that level of volatility in their home. Out of concern for their loved one's safety, they had to let him go immediately. Beyond his caregiving role, it was discovered that he also worked for a company that works with the court to test soil at building sites. As his identity became public, the police were flooded with reports from all over Greensboro about his past behavior. One particular account surfaced from a local resident regarding an incident at Jake's Billiards. She described how Jake had to be physically removed from the premises after he spent the night provoking a group of men who were minding their own business. He was reportedly bucking up at them and verbally harassing them until he was kicked out. Once outside, his behavior shifted dramatically.
