Rural Bangladesh - Balaram Mahalder.

Balaram Mahalder's photography documents the rural landscapes, agricultural communities and traditional occupations of Bangladesh through a sustained record of everyday life. Working primarily in villages, wetlands and farming regions, he photographs agricultural labour, fishing, river transport, local markets and domestic activity alongside the rivers, floodplains and cultivated land that shape the country's rural economy. His photographs are rooted in direct observation and place equal emphasis on the relationship between people, work and the landscape in which these activities take place.

A significant proportion of Mahalder's work focuses on the Haor wetlands of north eastern Bangladesh, where large seasonal floodplains support farming and fishing communities.
