How long do muscovy ducks take to hatch? How many times do they brood per year?

In this 'DID YOU KNOW' tutorial, we are learning about muscovy ducks and their laying and hatching characteristics. Muscovy duck eggs take the longest time to hatch as compared to other duck eggs. Pekin ducks take just 28 days to hatch, but muscovies will hatch after 35 days, or 5 weeks.

In the video you will also learn that muscovy ducks lay between 10 and 20 eggs per clutch then sit on those eggs until they hatch. In a year, muscovy ducks will give you 3 to 4 clutches, meaning you will get between (3 clutches times 10 eggs ) 30 ducklings and (4 clutches times 20 eggs) 80 ducklings in a year from a single muscovy duck.

The specific number of eggs that a single duck will naturally brood is influenced by the duck's age and body size. However, if you want her to brood more eggs, just take a few eggs away from her nest before she starts sitting on the eggs. Take 1 or 2 eggs daily and keep them somewhere safe then put the eggs back in the nest on the day she starts brooding. She will do the best she can to cover all the eggs with her body.
