Patrick Christys slams the backlash Ed Sheeran has received for removing Macklemore from his tour after making a series of 'free Palestine' speeches.
Sheeran's US Loop Tour has been thrown into turmoil after every remaining support act walked away from the concert series in protest at the removal of rapper Macklemore.
Finneas, Irish singer-songwriter Aaron Rowe, Danish pop group Lukas Graham, and Irish folk ensemble Beoga, who also serve as Mr Sheeran's backing band, each issued separate statements announcing their withdrawal.
The video examines the backlash against Ed Sheeran after he removed support act Macklemore for making pro-Palestine statements. The discussion argues that Sheeran is a victim of \"cancel culture\" for maintaining an apolitical stance, asserting that music venues should be spaces for art and unity rather than platforms for political preaching or performative activism.
The pro-Palestine brigade is trying to cancel Ed Sheeran. Ed Sheeran is doing a North American
tour and one of his support acts, Macklemore, decided to do stuff like this on stage.
I wanted to stand up here on stages and stadiums across America and say two words that are very
near and dear to my heart, free Palestine. Yeah and he kept doing it and he refused to
stop apparently and then he was removed from the tour. So what happened then? Well every other
support act also pulled out in solidarity with Macklemore. Now I'm just going to go and list
who they are and you tell me if you've ever heard of any of them. All right. Phineas? Nope.
Lucas Graham? Some Danish pop group or something I think. Aaron Rowe, an Irish singer-songwriter.
Then we've got, I don't even know how to pronounce this, Bioga? Irish folk band who were serving
as Ed Sheeran's live on-stage touring band. Never heard of any of them, right? They had a great
opportunity to support Ed Sheeran playing stadiums all around the United States of America and it
seems like they've all essentially quit because they aren't allowed to shout free Palestine
on a stage somewhere in the U.S. Now American politician like AOC says that she's boycotting
Ed Sheeran's music. Hey if Ed Sheeran comes on the radio while you're driving along are you
changing the channels? I am. You are? Yeah. Oh how will he survive? How will he survive? What
difference does it make? Every time AOC changes radio stations to avoid Ed Sheeran does a girls
and infant become a millionaire. Is that what happens? Ed Sheeran has lost about 200,000
Instagram followers over this and Roger Waters from Pink Floyd has really stuck it to him.
Anyway Ed, never mind all that. I just have a little message for you. There's two kinds of
people in this world, Ed. There's people who do the right thing. That rapper Macklemore would be
one of those people and there's people many of them sadly little excuse me I nearly used the
f-word then like you who do the wrong thing. I'm sorry what on earth is going on here? People pay
money to go and see an artist perform. They don't go to hear their often very uneducated views on
world affairs. I mean for example Paloma Faith. She walked out on stage in Gibraltar which is
British and she shouted hola España. That went down like a cup of cold sick and like night follows
day she's now decided that she's going to chime in today as well. Have a look at what she's wearing.
In this instance it has been and I definitely don't think he's a bad person
but I also think it was really gravely mishandled. It was a mistake and I think he probably
should come out and say it was a mistake. She's just gone there and got the whole Palestine
earrings there hasn't she? But anyway this is Madonna now. We're looking at Madonna
adopting four children from Malawi. People assumed that they were orphans but then it turned out that
they were not orphans at all. Big questions over over what she was playing out there. Yet some
artists just use being aggressively pro-Palestine as a way of masking the fact that they're not very
good at music like Bob Villan.
And someone like Macklemore he'll say that it's not anti-semitic to have his views about Israel,
the Israeli government. Well there was that time that he dressed up as some kind of Jewish caricature
which I don't think we're showing you the actual picture of because it might be deemed to be
too offensive. But now imagine if Ed Sheeran who was in the process of being cancelled as we speak
had blacked up on stage or browned up so that he could do an impression of a Pakistani man.
Do you think that he'd ever come back from that? Probably not. But Macklemore could do what he did
and get away with it can't he? Macklemore is also a big advocate for gay rights so I look forward to
doing a concert in Gaza and waving the pride flag over there. Nobody needed to hear his ramblings
about Palestine. What's happened is that Ed Sheeran has done him a favour by having him as a
support act. He was asked to do a job which is sing. Instead of doing his job he went on a mad
rant about international affairs and now he's ruined the whole show and caused a huge incident
that shafted Ed Sheeran's entire career. And this is it. This is the entitlement of the
pro-Palestine brigade. The arrogance isn't it? You can just shatter someone else's life because
you want to be able to go on stage and shout pro-Palestine at an event where no one was expecting
you to do it. I reckon we're about to have new rules for singers at concerts now. Go on stage,
you've got to start out wearing a keffiyeh, shout free Palestine, then get on one knee,
raise a fist in the air for George Floyd, then do a heart signal with your hands to show your
solidarity with a woman who's just strangled her three kids to death, and then you need to make a
statement about climate change and apologise for the private jet that you've travelled in,
and then finally, finally we might get some music. Oasis have got the right idea.
Noel said that Glastonbury had gone too woke and just said it was all about flags and preachiness,
and Liam, well Liam took a more route one approach. It's not happening, I was playing
at Glastonbury, so all you crock wearing, flag waving, s-word c-words can calm the f-word down.
Well I think Ed Sheeran's reputation will survive the hysterics of a load of keffiyeh wearing
keyboard warriors. Using the internet without a VPN, a virtual private network, is a bit like

quite the day for Ed Sheeran, hasn't it really? So yes, there we go. We've got Mark Littlewood,
Jamie McIver, and Ina Mishkoff. Mark, yeah, we are witnessing, seriously, we are living in the
moment of time of Ed Sheeran's cancellation. It's all quite extraordinary. I mean, I'd say I'm
largely unmoved by this. I do know some of Ed Sheeran's music. He's largely an apolitical
character. So he hasn't come out and said something outrageous about the Middle East
conflict. His position is he doesn't want to discuss it. And it seems to me that there's
a whole range of entertainment where that should roughly be the case. I'm slightly surprised that
they didn't work out what the rules of engagement were before this tour started, to be honest,
that you would usually have some sort of agreements about are we going to go political,
are we not? Some music is highly political. If you want to go to a Billy Bragg concert,
expect that you will get socialism upon socialism upon socialism. But this is all incredibly
performative. I agree with you, Patrick. I suspect they have done their own careers a lot more harm
than Ed Sheeran. And people need to decide what their own brand is. And Ed Sheeran's brand is
apolitical. I'm reminded of the great basketball player Michael Jordan, who back in the day came
under amazing pressure to back Barack Obama because he would be the first black president.
And Michael Jordan said, I don't discuss politics. I'm a basketball player. And half of the people
who buy my sports brands vote Republican. So I just don't want to touch it. Sheeran has basically
made that statement. He's apolitical. I don't care what Ed Sheeran thinks about Israel or Gaza.
I do not care. There's never been a moment when I've listened to any of his songs that
halfway through, I've just thought, hang on a minute, we need to find out about this. But
look, seriously, this could be over for it. Well, I think that when the anti-Semites jump on
something, they're very vicious. They're very over the top. They're very cancelling. And they
will be loving this opportunity. Ed Sheeran, this nice, polite, talented British icon,
just happens to say, hang on a minute. I just want my concerts to be about music. I want it
to be about happiness, songs, the odd sad song that goes with his songs. But I think what we've
got here is a really good example of cancellation at its best, where you have, there is just this
group of people, this left wing kind of mob that are pro-Palestine, even though half these people
that are trans for Palestine would get stoned to death if they ever set foot in this country,
this non-country. These people, they're a very vicious group of trolls, basically.
And sadly, Fred Sheeran, they are unleashed on him. Whether or not he has the PR to survive it,
I'm not sure. What I do know is that most Brits, of which will be a big part of his market,
will look at this and say, ignore them. We love your music. But the sad reality is it's a very
vicious mob of people. Well, it's the other people in the industry as well. Paloma Faith,
for example, didn't even know that Gibraltar was British and yet dresses up in a Palestinian
football shirt, put Palestinian earrings on to go and talk about it on Channel 4 News today.
And seriously, it just sounded like, I think she always does, where she's thick as mint.
And we now have to listen to her pontificate as a sword. But people like her supposedly matter in
the music industry. In fact, Sheeran's cancelled by all of these weasels that are piping up.
He's got to do something about it. What's he going to do? He comes out next time and goes,
you know what? I'm coming to you live from the Gaza Strip.
He's not going to be cancelled. His talent will help him survive. He writes songs about love,
for God's sake. That's what he's always done. He's a gentle soul. He's got a good heart.
He's not one of those flash rock stars. He doesn't look like a rock star. He is just a
genuinely decent guy. He will not be cancelled. This is a load of nonsense. And if he's cancelled
because he hasn't cancelled the tour, which is what they're saying, that's so idiotic.
Because there's so much involved in putting a show like that on the road. And the insurance
alone, the contracts, there's nowhere. Plus all the people who work on that tour,
this is his own crew. There's hundreds of people. There's the hot dog sellers. There's the people
who there's all the other things you can't. But I mean, the thing is, this is when someone like
Macklemore, who I think had largely been irrelevant for the last few years anyway,
chimes in and decides to just blow this thing up. Yeah. Yeah. He asked for his own sense of
entitlement. He's not thinking about the consequences here of how many people are
going to be not working now if this tour doesn't go out. Now, just but just imagine
Macklemore has been a friend of Ed Sheeran's for 10 years. Yeah. And so you although Ed Sheeran
has come and said, I'm not commenting either way. I've never told you what my views on I'm never
going to. The fact that he has got him as a support would tell those idiots that he he
probably supports Palestine because he's already said it on on on on a date before this. So if they
can't see that, they are, to quote you, as thick as mints. But he has. But he has absolutely. I
mean, but the smart thing is to say nothing. I feel really sorry for him because he's caught
between a rock and a hard place. But there is a there is, I think, a slightly bigger thing now,
which is that if you are not overtly free Palestine from the river to the sea, regardless
of what that means, by the way, in reality, or you if you are not of the view that, you know,
October the 7th, well, that was a that was that was awful. But I tell you what, you know,
they were just they were just freedom fighters, really. No, no, no. People are people are not
there was a real mind virus about this. You know, it's nice that people take an interest in other
parts of the world and are concerned about what's going on there. I like the fact that people look
out to the rest of the world. But the total blind obsession with this particular part of the world
drives me crazy. And I have to say, I don't know this Michael Moore chap never heard of him before.
But I question whether these people really take a deep interest in the geopolitics of the Middle
East and beyond, or whether this is just virtue signaling on a dramatic level, you are signaling,
I am a very woke globalist liberal who is attentive to the plight of others. I doubt
he could answer five or six questions about the Middle East crisis. I doubt he reads about it.
I think you're slightly trivialising it, Mark.
It's a cause celeb, rather than it being a genuine case.
It is a genuine, it's a genuine, genuine case. We saw night after night just because it's not on
our TV screens. We saw night after night the horror that was inflicted on on Gaza. And people
don't forget that. But why is it Gaza rather than why aren't they taking to the stage to criticise
Putin for the destruction of Ukraine, or the Chinese for the genocide of the Uyghurs? Or me
and Mark, because we had it on our television screens night after night after night. And because
we do business with Israel, because we are closer to Israel. Yes, but we're closer to that than any
of the others. Most of these lefties couldn't point to Palestine on a map if they tried. They
don't even know where it is. Okay, all right, well there we go. In a statement on his website
about accusations that he dressed up as a caricature of a Jewish man, Macklemore said,
I respect all cultures and all people. I'm here to say that it was absolutely not my intention
and unfortunately at the time I did not foresee the costume to be viewed in such regard. I'm
saddened that this story or any of my choices would lead to any form of negativity. Well, there you go.
