AI GeneratedA visitor explores the Frick Collection, a former mansion turned museum that reflects Henry Clay Frick's taste as an art collector. The tour highlights the intimate atmosphere of the home, its grand galleries, and the personal living quarters. For the visitor, a professional tennis player, the experience serves as a necessary mental escape and a source of peace and balance during tournament preparations.
This was originally the family's driveway for carriages and the creek actually was closed
for four years starting in 2020. The largest part of the renovation was opening the second floor
gallery. Okay. So we'll go upstairs and you'll see the Frick family living quarters where their
bedrooms were. I love when I see the place where they used to live and when they try to keep it
the way it was and I love these things as well and I read a little bit that they this was their
house at the beginning and then they transformed it in a museum so it's really nice. Oh wow. This
was their largest picture gallery. Other mansions in New York at the time would have ballrooms but
Frick wanted his showstopper to be a large picture gallery so it's 96 feet long the largest picture
gallery in the city at the time. It's very impressive and also everything that it the
way it's done and the colors and everything. Yeah it's really special how this home really
reflects Henry Flick Frick's taste as an art collector. Even if it's like very big and like
imposing it still has a cozy feeling. Absolutely absolutely it's a very intimate experience here.
It's amazing and it has a little bit of everything. This is the because usually like you would go in
sectors you know and this one has a little bit of furniture and a little bit of like
portraits and also nature and I love personally the ones where like with nature like
like this one for example because I don't know growing up like I've seen a lot of this so
it's very different than what I've seen. How beautiful this is. Oh my god. You can see the
shelves were built just halfway so that there were ample room for the art on the walls here.
Yes. Which was his main priority. Yes. And these books are original as well. Oh wow.
Imagine being here and getting a book with the fire going. It's a nice life.
It's amazing. I love this. So this was where he is basically. It's impressive. Everywhere I go I
try to see a little bit. I love sports so like if I have the chance I will go to any other sport.
And everywhere I go I try to experience a little bit other sports because a little bit like my
world. I love walking. I love walking around the cities and like this way I find like exploring
the best or sometimes when I have to go for a run I go in the city so then it's like even better.
Like for me this is a little bit like taking my mind away from tennis which I need like I need
that balance a little bit because if I think all the time only about tennis tennis tennis
it doesn't work for me. It might work for other people but and then this is a little bit my
relaxing. Absolutely. It's an escape here. Yes yes exactly. It's very Versailles a little bit.
I prefer this kind of energy and this kind of it feels like so much more private and cozy and you
can actually I don't know feel like you enjoy every painting or of course it's very personal
some might get to you some and but I feel here like you can really enjoy like the full experience.
I love more this art than the contemporary so this is a little bit more my style
and also I feel everything it's like so perfectly put together like every little corner where you
look everything like makes sense and it's a it's a beautiful experience like it's not just a museum
it's a whole experience. Well in here we have the first formal dining room. I was expecting a bigger
table. I know I know it actually folds out so it does but this was the original table. I mean if
there was only three of them because I would suppose the rest would eat separate. The European
artists that we've had like I've seen Rembrandt, I've seen Titian and I think I've seen one from
every piece here is like so special. Down this hallway right here this was actually that was
the front door of the mansion because everything added was added everything past there was added
later. So basically this was the entrance and this was the absolutely and this is the grand staircase.
So this is called the breakfast room there's a very serene energy in here.
Yeah not a big collector at the moment so but I know after after my tennis I will
I will try to also have a quite like minimalistic style so I love like for example I love being in
here but this for me it's like it's a lot so but I love when I see places like this.
The fireplaces and the details in the fireplaces are absolutely amazing. I feel before the world
like had more much more colour and it was like much more now everything it's so simple and
it's I don't know if it's good or bad but sometimes it's a little bit sad that we go into so
including me again like I'm the guilty one. I would love for example when I would be older to
like have all this like paint like different kind of paintings or different kind of
art from special places that I've been to. I've been to Monet's place in Giverny it was one of
the nicest places like his house and like with the like the pond and the lilies and
it's exactly the same it's like you are in the you are in the painting there.
Like you say every room has a different vibe or different inspiration or you feel different in
every one you feel happier in one you feel a little bit more and more in peace in one you feel
like more energetic it's they have very different vibes. This is the bedroom of Adelie Frick right
and you'll notice that of course they have a view of Central Park. Oh my god the view
it's very much in Romania. I'm orthodox we have a lot of like paintings like this in the churches
like very similar style. I suppose this was his bedroom
because this is the best view.
Stunning absolutely beautiful everything it's just absolutely amazing.
Was this the original as well? This place is amazing and also like I want to keep coming back
you know because there is so much happening that I you feel like probably every time you come like
you will see something else or experience something else. So do you feel like you've
gotten a moment of peace yes in the midst of preparation for the tournament? Yes absolutely
like I feel happy and also like you say like calm you know so and this combination is the best.
