If you have fine or low porosity hair like me,
the number one thing that you have to start doing
to make it look and feel better
is to start washing your hair more often.
So today I'm gonna take you
through my entire hair wash day routine
filled with tips, tricks, and product recommendations
to get your fine and low porosity hair
feeling and looking amazing.
Hi guys, and welcome back to my YouTube channel.
For those of you who don't know me, I'm Jazz.
I make beauty and livestock content
here on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
Today we are going to do a little hair wash day and routine.
And while we do this routine,
I'm also gonna be sharing some of my favorite rules
for fine and low porosity hair.
If you haven't already, go check out my videos on hair care.
I have a ton of videos for fine hair,
for low porosity hair, for wavy hair.
They have a ton of information
that we're not gonna cover in this video,
but I do get a lot of questions about how I style my hair,
what I do to go about a hair wash day,
and what are some of my favorite products to use.
So that is what we're gonna cover in today's video.
And that is also why I look like this, you guys.
I usually dress up for y'all.
I'm not even gonna lie.
Like, I'll put on a little makeup.
Okay, I'll do my hair, put on a nice little outfit.
No, it is hair wash day.
That means my hair is looking, it's looking jank,
which means I'm looking jank.
Like, usually that's how the two line up.
So that is why I look like this.
I apologize for my appearance,
but we're gonna look better by the end of this video.
Like I said before, I do have fine and low porosity hair.
And one thing that I did that dramatically
and drastically changed my hair
was starting to wash my hair more often.
I have said this several times
in almost every single one of my hair care videos,
but hair training is a myth.
You do not need to go three, four, five days
without washing your hair,
especially if you have fine or low porosity hair.
And before anyone comes for me in the comments,
please search it up.
Do your due diligence.
Do your own research.
Hair training is a myth, you guys.
And there is a study that was done in 2021
that kind of proves that.
And it shows that there are no bad or negative side effects
to washing your hair every single day.
And on top of that, in fact,
if you did shampoo or wash your hair every single day,
you have a healthier scalp, you have more hair growth.
It's just overall better for your hair
to wash your hair more often.
So I usually wash my hair every two days,
at max three days, okay?
We are on the third day,
which means it's time to get moving.
I need to wash my hair.
Like I said before,
we are gonna be covering some little rules and some tips
while we go through this routine together.
And the first thing that I wanna say
is that I no longer oil my scalp.
And I used to do that in almost every single one
of my routine or self-care videos.
And honestly, I apologize if I steered any of you
in the wrong direction with oiling your scalp.
I completely retract my statement
and my action and my influence.
Now, if you are oiling your scalp
and you have seen no negative side effects,
then that's great.
That means your scalp and your hair can handle it.
But if you're anything like me,
then oiling my scalp actually did more damage
to my scalp and my hair than I would have liked.
And honestly, than I would have known.
I think because my hair is so fine and low porosity,
it cannot handle those like really thick oils on my scalp.
So it was causing a lot of itchiness,
dandruff, flakiness, redness.
And because it was causing that,
I thought that oiling it would make it better.
So I kept oiling my scalp every single week,
hoping that it would sort of calm down my scalp.
And I think it was actually making it worse
because I stopped oiling my scalp.
And for years now,
I have not dealt with any sort of itchiness,
flakiness, or redness.
So instead of using an oil for my scalp,
I switched over to using a scalp serum,
but I will show you that later
because that is a post-shower product.
Let's go ahead and hop in the shower.
I'm gonna show you some of my favorite shampoos,
conditioners, leave-in hair mask products,
and my technique for washing my hair
because there is a technique for washing fine hair.
You can't just jump in there and just scrub it.
No, no, no.
There's technique.
So let's go ahead and hop in the shower.
All right, girls, let's get into the shower routine,
which is arguably one of the most important parts
of having fresh, fine, and low porosity hair.
A lot of people focus on the products
and the post-shower routine,
but the shower is just as important.
Here are some of my favorite shampoo
and conditioner recommendations.
As you can see, we've got a mix of drugstore,
more affordable ones, and also more high-end ones.
I have been using all of these for quite some time.
And when I tell you, my hair loves these.
These are my go-tos.
For your shampoo, you wanna look for a formula
that resembles this,
which is super watery and almost clear.
It looks super lightweight,
which is exactly what your low porosity and fine hair needs.
And as you can see, while I'm washing my hair,
I also make sure to get every part of the root, you guys.
It is so easy to just wash the outside of your scalp.
You wanna make sure you are literally splitting your hair
and opening up your scalp to make sure
that you are getting your entire tire scalp.
When it comes to my ends, because I have fine hair,
which means I'm more prone
to split ends, damage, and dryness,
I usually just tend to avoid my ends
and just let kind of the shampoo run down,
if that makes sense.
And trust me, that has been such a huge game changer.
My ends no longer look super crispy.
Make sure to rinse out all of that water
and then you can go in with conditioner.
When it comes to conditioner, more is not better, guys.
Less is more, okay?
If you're using this much
and you have fine and low porosity hair,
I would probably take some away.
Obviously, it depends on the length of your hair,
but for me, a quarter size amount is just enough.
I mostly focus this on my ends and mid-ends
and I do apply some on my roots, but really not that much.
I let it sit in my hair while I do my body care
and then we're gonna rinse it out.
And when I say rinse it out, guys, I mean rinse it out.
Like, do not just rinse it out for a minute
and think it's gone.
I used to be in such a rush all the time
and that is why my hair always looks super dirty
and way down and frizzy.
So just spend a couple of minutes
really letting that water wash away all of the conditioner.
You don't want a bunch of conditioner residue on your hair
after you leave the shower
because that basically means you did all of this work
for no reason because your hair
is still kind of dirty with product.
All right, we are out of the shower.
My hair is nice and clean.
I have it wrapped in like a dirty T-shirt
that was in the laundry basket,
but you can use a microfiber towel.
Vice versa, if you don't have a microfiber towel,
you can just use a T-shirt.
And it does the job pretty well
without letting my hair get super frizzy and super dry.
Just make sure you're not wrapping the towel super tightly
because you will be pulling at your edges
and then you'll have a lot, a lot of fallout,
which by the way, you guys, fallout is normal.
I still get, in fact, you're about to see.
You're about to see how much fallout I get.
Nothing in the hair.
It is not dripping wet, but it is pretty damp.
But for me, the golden rule is three to four products.
That's all that I use on my hair.
I don't use any more than that.
So instead of using two separate products,
one for heat protectant, one for detangler, for example,
I like to use one product that does all of that.
This product actually does so much more.
It conditions, nourishes, improves manageability.
Okay, I'm not even gonna read all this
because it literally has like 25 things that it does,
but I for sure know that it detangles
and it has heat protectant,
which is the first step for my hair.
So we are just gonna do a couple of spritz, you guys.
We're not gonna go crazy like one, two, three, four, five,
flip it over, one, two, three, no.
We're literally doing like five spritz,
six spritz at most.
So one, two, three,
and then we're gonna like flip it over.
One, two, three.
And then we're just gonna kind of
massage that into our hair.
You do not need that much product.
Trust me, less is more when it comes to fine hair
because the more product you add,
and the same goes for low porosity hair, okay?
A lot of the things that I say for fine hair
happen to inter cross with low porosity hair as well,
as well as the products for fine hair.
They kind of also work for low porosity hair.
So I'm brushing my hair super gently now.
Again, I didn't use that much product.
The minute you start overdoing it
with how much product you're adding
and how many products you're using,
you will ruin your hairstyle.
Like you will see that the next day
your hair looks super oily, dull, way down.
It looks frizzy.
It just doesn't look fresh
and it's because you're using too many products
or too much of each product.
So I'm lightly, lightly brushing my hair.
I start at the ends
and then I work my way up to the mid ends
and then eventually to the roots.
A lot of times I see girls with fine hair
literally like going crazy with the brush
and I don't know why.
But specifically for fine hair,
you really, really have to be gentle.
Our hair is just so delicate.
It's literally like a baby.
You literally have to baby your fine hair.
Take your time.
We're not in a rush, okay?
If you are in a rush, still take your time
because you don't wanna be dealing
with a bunch of breakage, trust me.
Once I feel like my hair is nice and brushed out,
there's no more tangles,
I grab the shirt again
and I kinda just squeeze out whatever water is left
so that my hair is not super, super wet,
dripping to work with.
But that was product number one.
Again, just a couple of spritz
and it already detangled my hair
and added some heat protection.
We're gonna move on to product number two,
which is gonna be a leave-in conditioner.
In this case, this is a leave-in serum,
but it's pretty much the same thing.
Especially for fine hair,
you don't wanna be using a thick conditioner,
any thick product for low porosity and fine hair.
This product is perfect for fine and low porosity hair
because it is so lightweight,
yet still really hydrates your hair.
One of my golden rules for fine and low porosity hair
when you're searching for a product is
if it comes in a pump,
it's usually lightweight enough for your hair.
So you want the product to be super watery.
I don't know if that makes sense,
but the texture of the product,
if you put it on your hand and it is thick
and it just literally just stays there like a glob,
it is too thick for your hair.
I'm gonna spritz it on my hand
so you can see just how lightweight it is.
And as you can see, I am running out of this
because I use it so much.
This is what this looks like.
And look, it literally does not even stay put.
It just drips down
because it is so watery and so lightweight.
I'm gonna work that into my hands.
And as you saw, how many spritz did I do?
I didn't even count, but it was just a couple.
It was not a whole like one, two, three, four, five,
one, two, three, four, five.
No, it was just a couple of spritz.
And I like spraying it onto my hand
so I can see exactly how much product I'm using.
And I start working that into my ends and mid-ends.
I rarely ever work a product into my roots.
Just finishing working in that product.
And then what I'm gonna do is grab my brush
and brush my hair again, very lightly, very gently,
just to make sure the product is evenly distributed.
Now, something I do in between these hair care steps
that I never see anyone else do
for fine and low porosity hair,
I grab the towel or the rag or the shirt that you were using.
It's still kind of damp from my hair.
And I literally clean my hands.
Like I lightly make sure
that any excess product is off of my hands.
Even though I'm gonna be touching my hair again,
I don't want the product to build up on my hands as well.
You will see that I do this in between steps.
I don't know if it's excessive.
I don't know if it really, really helps that much.
But I find that it does help me.
So I like to do this.
Now my hands are fresh and clean again.
This one is an anti-frizz spray
and it's for silky, glossy hair.
I really like this product
because it's basically like a blowout
or a heat styling prep without so much buildup
because it's not really a cream.
It's actually like a really watery product.
I can't even spray it onto my hand
because it's literally water.
Leave a few inches of space.
And I'm, again, focusing mid-ends to ends.
So one, two, three.
That's more than enough.
Gonna do the other side.
One, two, three.
That's all you need.
I'm taking my brush,
making sure that product is evenly distributed.
And now our hair is prepped,
ready to be heat styled, ready to be blow dried.
If you have wavy hair,
which I do have naturally wavy hair,
go check out my wavy hair videos
because I show you how I style my wavy hair.
It's a little bit different than this,
but the main golden rules still apply.
Now, I did say in the beginning of the video
that I use a scalp serum,
so I do wanna cover that.
I don't really count this as a product.
That's why I say three to four products.
But if you wanna count this as a fourth one,
go right ahead.
But this scalp serum is what I use
in replacement of oiling my scalp.
And I really, really like this one.
Guys, this is not a sponsor.
Nothing in this video is sponsored.
Nothing in this video is an ad.
These are products that I genuinely love.
So again, I do, as you saw in the shower,
love the OGX Pro Growth Plus Peptide line.
It has been so good for my fine hair.
It has made my hair grow a lot.
I mean, you guys remember when I cut it a few months ago?
And I cut it to right here,
like my shoulder, basically.
And it has grown so much.
And I swear, it's because of this line.
This scalp serum is so good.
It nourishes my scalp.
It hydrates my scalp.
And it doesn't weigh down my hair or my scalp.
There's no residue left behind,
which I was really afraid of with the scalp serum
because I don't want my roots to get really weighed down
or oily or greasy on day like one or two.
But this scalp serum does not do that.
It's super lightweight.
And it just like, I don't know how to explain it.
Like my scalp just drinks this up.
I don't use this every time,
but I do use this a couple times a week
or a couple times a month.
We're gonna go ahead and massage that into our roots.
This has replaced oiling my scalp.
It has given me so many more benefits
than oiling my scalp ever did, honestly.
Now, listen, I know the girls know
how to blow dry their hair,
but I am gonna give you a little fun tip.
If you want some fluffiness and volume at your roots,
just make sure you're not blow drying your hair
in the direction of your part.
So for example, I have a middle part,
but I don't part my hair and blow dry it
downwards straight away
because it'll lay super, super flat
and have no volume if I do that.
What I do instead is split my hair to the right,
split my hair to the left.
And really, I'm just blow drying my hair in all directions.
I'm sort of like confusing my roots
to get some volume and fluff.
And here's when my blow dryer switched my power off
because it is literally so strong.
I love this blow dryer.
Check it out.
It's by Lifin.
All right, my hair is pretty much fully dry now.
Does it look great?
No, but this is the base we're working with.
So now we can heat style our hair.
Sometimes I sleep with this hair
and then I wake up in the morning
and it's ready to be heat styled
and it's fresh and it's clean.
Had I let it air dry, it wouldn't look like this.
It would not be ready to be heat styled
because it would be so much more frizzier.
And especially with my wavy texture,
it would just be basically impossible to heat style,
which is why I definitely recommend blow drying your hair.
It took me a couple of minutes.
Because I have fine hair,
it just like blow dries so quickly
because I don't have a lot of it.
And this blow dryer, I mean, this thing is powerful.
This is the Lifin blow dryer.
Again, not sponsored, not an ad.
I just love this blow dryer.
So we're gonna go ahead and heat style our hair.
And these two products did have heat protection.
So our hair is also heat protected now.
You wanna make sure with fine hair
that you are using heat protection.
I used to think heat protection was like a gimmick.
I'm not even gonna lie.
I sound crazy when I say that.
But I used to think like, it's not real.
Like, does it actually protect your hair?
It does, guys.
It does use heat protection.
It will minimize the amount of dry split ends,
breakage and damage you do to your hair
when you heat style it.
Another thing I want to note here
is that I switched the brush.
I'm not using this brush anymore.
This is for wet hair.
This is for distributing product.
This is after the hair is dry and it's clean.
I don't wanna be using this,
which probably has so much product,
on my clean and dry hair
because it will probably make it dirtier.
So I always use like a fresh brush
once my hair is ready to be heat styled and it's dry.
Guys, I know there's like a lot of information.
It's a lot of little rules.
Take out your notebook.
Write down these tips.
Write down the rules
because I promise you they make all the difference.
Let's go ahead and section off our hair
so we can heat style it.
Now, if you watch my YouTube videos,
then you know that my go-to hairstyle
is these effortless curls slash waves.
They're super easy to achieve.
So I grab my hot tool, in this case, a curling iron,
and I wrap the curls around it.
If you don't know how to use a curling iron,
I definitely recommend learning.
I love using a clamp curling iron.
I'm not a wand type of girl.
I wrap the hair around it,
and when I tell you I only leave it on there
for like five seconds,
you guys, you do not need to give your fine hair
so much heat because our fine hairstyles so easily,
excessive heat is really not necessary.
As you can see, I wrap it around
all the way up to the roots,
and then at the bottom, I kind of straighten it downwards.
And I think this is what creates
those like super effortless beachy waves
because if you also curl the ends,
then it looks super like professional
and intentional curls,
which is not the look we're really going for.
With each curl, I leave it alone until the very, very end
when I run a brush through it,
and you can kind of see how those curls
start to break apart and reveal these really pretty,
just like soft waves.
Again, for my fine hair,
this is one of my favorite hairstyles.
It's super low maintenance,
it's super easy and quick to achieve,
and it still gives me some volume
instead of laying super flat.
Finish it off with some hairspray or texturizing spray,
and that's how I achieve my favorite hairstyle.
All right, guys, that was my little technique video
on how I style my hair every single day.
These are like effortless waves slash curls.
And every time I film a YouTube video
and I have this hairstyle,
I do get questions on how I style it.
So I hope that helped.
I hope that little tutorial kind of gave you an idea
of how I style my hair every single day.
And even though I have fine hair,
this hairstyle, the way I just styled my hair,
probably the best way to style my hair for me.
Of course, other than leaving it wavy, natural,
which I tend to lean more towards this
just because it's easier to maintain.
My curly and wavy hair girls get it.
Do I wish I could do a blowout every single day?
Yes, I love a good blowout.
But unfortunately, this brush and the blow dryer
are so close to the hair.
That combo I found tends to give my fine hair
a lot of breakage and a lot of damage.
So if you're constantly doing blowouts
and you have fine hair,
and you find yourself with a lot of dryness,
breakage, and damage, and you're wondering why,
it's probably because of this.
So I try to do this only a couple times a month
at most or maybe for special occasions
because this combo I have found for fine hair
is quite damaging.
What I did instead, which was blow dry the hair
and give myself a nice dry base
and then go in with a styling tool
is much healthier for my hair.
Of course, I'm not telling you what to do with your hair
or how to style it, but that's just my advice.
I use these tools on the lowest heat possible.
Because I have fine hair, I don't have to use high heat.
It styles so easily.
And yeah, this hairstyle lasts me a couple days,
way more than a traditional blowout would, of course,
and way more than my wavy hair lasts
because again, the girls that get it, get it.
That was my hair wash day.
I tried to squeeze in as many tips,
techniques, products as I could.
If you have any questions,
don't hesitate to leave them in the comments,
but do not forget to go watch my other videos
because there's so much more information on there.
But yeah, I hope you guys enjoyed this video
and I hope that it helps you
in your fine and low porosity hair journey.
And I will see you in the next one.
