If Aliens Are Real, What Happens to Religion?

If intelligent life beyond Earth were confirmed tomorrow, would faith collapse—or would humanity discover that creation was always larger than we imagined?

This feature-length documentary follows that question from Pope Francis's famous Martian baptism thought experiment to Scripture, medieval debates about other worlds, the modern exoplanet revolution, the Vatican Observatory, SETI protocols, Christian ideas about souls and salvation, and the ways other religious traditions might respond to first contact.

It also confronts the harder questions. Would extraterrestrial intelligence bear the image of God? Would Christ's incarnation apply beyond Earth? How would believers distinguish a visitor from a spiritual claim—and what might happen on the first Sunday after confirmed contact?

No public evidence has confirmed extraterrestrial life or an extraterrestrial visit. Documents, theology, scientific findings and testimony are identified for what they are; reconstruction and illustration are used where no authentic image can exist.
