Today I'm wearing a hitoe (unlined) tsumugi kimono, woven in a technique called megane-ori. The thick, textured fabric has a slight fuzziness on its surface — a hallmark of handwoven silk — so every movement carries a soft, popping texture you can only get from cloth made by hand.
The mizusashi (water jar) used today is entirely ceramic, both the body and the lid, so listen closely for the rough, textured sound as it's lifted, opened, and set back down. It's one of my favorite sounds in this whole ritual.
