Swissminiatur – Switzerland in Miniature Swissminiatur in Melide, on the shores of Lake Lugano, is Switzerland’s largest miniature park. Covering around 14,000 square metres, it offers a unique chance to explore the whole of Switzerland in just one visit. The park opened in 1959 and features more than 130 incredibly detailed models of Swiss landmarks, towns, castles and other famous sights, all built at a scale of 1:25. Among them are Château de Chillon, the Federal Palace in Bern, Piazza Grande in Locarno, as well as numerous mountain railways and cable cars. One of the park’s highlights is its miniature railway network, stretching for more than three and a half kilometres. Dozens of model trains travel through the landscape, accompanied by cable cars, boats and even cars moving along the miniature roads. Swissminiatur is a fun and fascinating way to discover Switzerland from a completely different perspective — an entire country, all in one afternoon.
