Slow living in England as autumn draws closer — cooler evenings, comforting home cooking and peaceful walks in the English countryside. 🍂

Join us for a cosy September visit to Romsey’s farmers’ market and Food Fair, a brief stop in Winchester and a quiet village walk in Candover, Hampshire.

At home, I unpack our market finds, bring out last year’s autumn decorations and make no-knead rye and spelt bread with caraway seeds, alongside roasted butternut squash and apple soup. We also make a few more little changes to our bathroom and sit down to a cosy supper together.

Seasonal home cooking and small moments of everyday life, shared through a silent vlog with subtitles.

🍞 NO-KNEAD RYE & SPELT BREAD
• 250g plain flour
• 100g wholemeal spelt flour
• 100g light rye flour
• 10g salt
• ¼ tsp instant yeast
• 1–2 tbsp caraway seeds, plus extra for the top
• 390ml lukewarm water
• 1 tbsp black treacle
• A little flour for dusting

🥣 ROASTED BUTTERNUT SQUASH & APPLE SOUP
• 1 butternut squash
• 1 carrot
• 1 Golden Delicious apple
• 1 onion
• 1 garlic clove
• Olive oil
• Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
• 1 tbsp maple syrup
• Around 800ml vegetable or chicken stock
• Thyme — or rosemary or sage
• A little ginger — or nutmeg

To finish: pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, sunflower seeds and a swirl of yoghurt or cream. For a dairy-free version, use a dairy-free alternative or leave out the yoghurt or cream.
