AI GeneratedFernanda demonstrates how to style culottes for various occasions, including work, weekends, and dates. She explains the definition of culottes—wide-leg pants that mimic a full skirt—and distinguishes them from gauchos. The guide emphasizes the importance of defining the waist to balance the volume of the pants for a chic, polished silhouette.
You asked for it, so today I'm gonna show you
how to style culottes six ways
in outfits for work, weekend, and date.
Because I am a little bit of a nerd,
I do wanna touch on what a culotte actually is.
A culotte is a bifurcated garment that is of a fuller cut,
and essentially when you wear them,
they make it look like you're wearing a very full skirt.
In my understanding of the French language,
the word culotte actually means like undergarment
or like women's panties, but I'm not so sure about that,
so if you speak French, please let me know
in the comments below if I'm correct,
and if not, please let us know what it actually means.
But if you think about it, this makes a lot of sense,
because if you think about old-school women's undergarments,
something like this, these were made of a fuller cut
so that when you would put either a dress
or a skirt over them, it would maintain the silhouette
that was fashionable at the time.
Culottes are often confused with gauchos,
which is another type of a wide-leg pant,
but gauchos are actually usually cropped
below the knee or at calf length,
and they're more of a straight cut,
whereas culottes are more of an A-line cut.
Fun facts.

You can hit the diamond over here to do so.
Let's get to it.
Starting with a work outfit.
Here, I'm pairing the culottes
with a very simple button-down shirt with a pinstripe.
The thing about culottes is that the volume
is already so big at the bottom
that they really call for definition on the top part.
What I like about these culottes
is that you can choose where they should hit you at the waist
so you can play a little bit around with the height.
I'm rolling up my sleeves for some definition,
and I'm adding a pair of black booties,
just something a little more formal than plain flats.
For a little bit of an edgier look,
I decided to go with this leather jacket.
It's not very summery,
but I love the way they look turned out.
I feel like this would be perfect for a creative office.
I'm adding a watch just for some jewelry,
and rolling up the sleeves a little bit.
I love the way this one turned out.
This is another work outfit.
It's probably a little too warm
to wear this outfit right now,
but I love this, so I wanted to show you
this will be perfect for fall.
Again, I'm tucking in the shirt
to change the silhouette of the outfit.
And for a different hairdo,
I'm just gonna go with a spunky ponytail.
Here, I'm showing you my jewelry.
This sword earring, as well as the necklace
that I'm about to put on in a minute,
are from a company called Fine,
which a classmate of mine from high school founded recently,
and her stuff is gorgeous.
Highly recommend you check it out.
I love these culottes.
They are super stretchy material,
and you can really move in them.
Not that you would ever need to move in them that much,
but they really make it feel like
you're wearing super comfortable lounge pants,
but they look perfect.
Moving on to the weekend.
I started pairing them with a very simple white T-shirt
and a pair of white sneakers,
and I was so surprised how much I love this outfit,
how comfortable it was, and how good it looked.
Case in point, I feel like these are
the perfect pants to travel with,
because not only do they go very well for a work meeting,
then you can throw these on for the plane,
and this is just the perfect plane outfit,
and I feel like it looks super chic and effortless.
For the next weekend look,
I wanted to do something that I would wear
to brunch with my girlfriends.
I paired this patterned floral top with the culottes,
and then just added a couple of layered necklaces
with different textures and colors.
I feel like this look would go perfect
with a pair of espadrilles, something like this.
I don't have anything like that,
but I really wanted to show you,
so I'm just gonna go with the flats,
because I really believe in using what you have.
Just to pick up on the green from the shirt,
I paired it with this green purse.
Moving on to a date outfit.
I have this black tunic top that I don't wear very often,
because I feel like it fits a little weird,
and I felt like it needed definition at the waist.
You can either do it with a belt or by tucking the shirt.
I chose to tuck in the shirt, but looking at it now,
I think this outfit could have still used a belt.
I feel like this will go best
with a pair of black stilettos.
I don't have one in my collection right now,
so I went with the black booties
and my black wallon on a chain.
You can always take the chain off
to make it a cute little clutch for the evening.
And there you go, a super chic and elegant date outfit.
For the next date outfit,
I wanted something that you could wear
more to like a cocktail hour,
perhaps at a wedding weekend or something like that.
I paired it with this patterned top,
and then I added gold jewelry and gold accessories.
I'm actually wearing mismatched earrings,
because I thought that would be fun,
but you can't tell in this shot.
I'm pairing it with a very high-heeled pair of camel shoes.
I've had these forever.
And I love the way this outfit turned out,
because you can really appreciate the cut of the pants,
and you can see how they look like a skirt.
Topping it off with a gold clutch, and there you go.
Another cute date outfit.
