Twist Car Electric Conversion – Full DIY Build

In this video, I converted my son‘s old twist car into a high-performance electric ride. I bought this cheap, no-name twist car back in 2021. It served him well for a few years, but now that he’s grown up, it’s been sitting in the corner collecting dust.

Instead of throwing it away, I decided to give it a second life — as an electric vehicle. And I wanted speed.

Here‘s what went into the build:

Motor: High-torque brushless outrunner motor with strong magnets

Controller: 1500W rated

Battery: DeWalt-style 20V lithium tool battery packs (two in series for 40V total), custom-built with low-internal-resistance 21700 full-tab cells

Chassis: Custom steel plate frame, welded from scratch

Rear suspension: 4-link setup with coilover shock absorbers — a classic and effective solution

Rear drive: Belt-driven directly from the motor to the rear wheel

Front suspension: Not installed due to space constraints (the twist car is just too small)

Steering: Custom DIY rack-and-pinion steering system — couldn‘t find anything on the market that fit

Brakes: Cable-actuated disc brake — works surprisingly well

Differential: Not included — the body was too compact to fit one

The final result?

Exceeded all my expectations. The steel frame is rock-solid — even an adult can ride it with confidence. Steering is precise with zero play. And the motor? Absolutely punchy. With an 80kg adult on board, it hit 45 km/h without breaking a sweat.
