Soil Education: Sounding Soil | CURIOSOIL

In Switzerland, many citizens remain unaware that soil is a vibrant, living ecosystem vital to food security, environmental health, and climate resilience. To address this gap, Biovision launched Sounding Soil, an innovative initiative that uses soil microphones to let people hear the sounds of soil life. This unique approach connects people emotionally to the hidden world beneath their feet and highlights the impact of human activities on soil health.

From 2017 to 2023, Sounding Soil reached over 12,000 adults and nearly 2,700 students through workshops, events, and online outreach. The project continues from 2024 to 2026 with a focus on expanding its reach by partnering with schools, farms, and educational platforms. Planned activities include public events, school workshops, and teacher trainings, aiming to engage over 13,000 people.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 15 and Switzerland’s national soil strategy, Sounding Soil promotes civic engagement and sustainable behaviours by raising awareness about soil’s role in a resilient food system. By building long-term partnerships with educators and institutions, Biovision ensures that the Sounding Soil approach remains impactful and sustainable for years to come.
