The journey begins in mid-summer, when blueberries slowly change from green to deep blue. But not every blue berry is ready to pick. Farmers return to the same bushes many times, selecting ripe berries by hand for fresh-market clamshells while using over-the-row harvesters for large processing volumes.

After harvest, blueberries must be cooled quickly to protect firmness, freshness and flavor. Fresh berries are sorted, packed into ventilated clamshells and shipped through the cold chain, while processing berries may become IQF frozen blueberries, smoothies, yogurt, jam, juice and bakery ingredients.
