The Ultimate Survival Canteen Cook Kit — Crusader MK2

Today we're out in the woods. We're going to cook lunch with the Crusader Mark II cook set. This is from England and it is a new cook set for me and I want to share it with you and see how this thing performs. Stick around. I have been wanting to do this video for a while and I actually purchased this Crusader cup set canteen kit a while ago but then I ended up moving and it kind of got lost in the shuffle. I had to put it in storage. Haven't had time to get out in the woods to film but I'm back and this thing is really cool. I've always wanted one of these. This is the Crusader cook set. This is the Mark II I believe is what it's called and if you're not familiar with the British Crusader cook sets they're very different than the American canteen sets. You actually have a mug, you have a cooking cup, you have a canteen inside, and then there is a cooking base. So the first thing is you have this very large generous plastic mug so it's going to be great for coffee. You have this NATO canteen that nests inside the aluminum cup and that aluminum is anodized so it's safe but as you can tell this thing is really large. It's much larger than a traditional American canteen cup. It does have some graduations but it only goes up to 0.5 liters up which is halfway so I'm assuming this thing is a full liter to cook in. Very large cup. Now one thing is just like the American canteen cups it does not come with a lid. There are some aftermarket lids of course you can make one. I haven't had time to do that yet but I'm going to figure out how to make a lid for this because I think that's going to definitely improve performance with cooking but also it just you know helps keep your food warm if you're not going to get to it right away. So here's the cooking cup and then the interesting thing with this set is that you get this stove base. Now the stove base is an improvement on the Mark II over the older version because you actually have this little folding handle but the handle is really for creating a stable base for your cup to sit on like that see and it also is the proper height to put a transgea alcohol stove inside here. There's actually a little reservoir that will fit the transgea but also you can burn other types of things like aspit tabs, dragon fuel gel tabs and then what I brought today because this is another thing that I kind of wanted to test out because I've had these for quite a while are some of these fuel gel packets. I think these are very similar to like alcohol tabs but it's a fuel gel and it's a diethylene glycol. So these were you know a lot of times these will come in MREs things like that military survival kits but we're going to use that to boil our water. And then here's another one this is a pyro pack let's see same thing same kind of stuff but just it's a newer version this one of course this one is starting to come apart I've had it for such a long time but we'll see how these do. So I just brought this little piece of foil to put over it I don't know if I actually got the video of me striking the ferro rod but there it is it's burning now took a little bit but that's an older packet of gel I'm gonna put this little foil over it there's the old packet you can kind of hear it. While that's heating up what I like to do is I like to build like little kind of ration packs out of stuff that I get at the store you know I don't always like eating MREs they're usually not that great but so this is something that I've put together to carry in my haversack along with this cook kit but I've got coffee singles I have this little milk chocolate with hazelnuts bar I can't remember where I got this at came with something I have some tuna this is spicy Thai chili it's great value so that's from Walmart let me check the expiration date we are good it's good till 2028 honey stinger you can get these at Walmart as well nice little protein bar waffle really good and then this is some ramen but it's not the cheap you know top ramen stuff that's so bad I think this is from a company called I think it's ABC brand or something like that but so this is like their spicy garlic really good stuff it has no GMOs none of that crap it's it's just a higher quality ramen and has really good flavor oh wait a minute hang on I'm not quite boiling yet but we are getting there you can hear it and then this is an accessory pack from an MRE it's got the toilet paper and there's a like a raspberry drink some gum and some wet wipes so always hang on to those and then I've got to add chili sauce and soy sauce I get these from Panda Express usually have extras after I eat there so we got steam so that's and then what I do is I find these kind of heavier duty Ziploc bags these aren't your standard store-bought ones I get these on Amazon I get packs of them and then I can reuse these for carrying my food look at that we got to boil that didn't take that long I'm really kind of surprised but for sure it was going to take forever I don't like on SBIT tabs they take forever to boil water but this alcohol gel stuff does a nice job what's really nice about this Crusader set is it's very stable and it's got a good windscreen to it and another thing I failed to mention is that you can probably burn twigs in this as well as the gel packs the SBIT the Trangia whatever it's a multi-use stove you're not locked into just one kind of fuel type and you know being in the field I think that's really important because you want to have options sometimes so we're gonna let that boil for a little bit noodles are good and soft it's nice I'm gonna drain this just a little bit look so look at that you still got good flame going I'm really impressed with that fuel gel so that's the garlic packet and then this is they call this like street noodle style so it's got like kind of a almost like a cheesy powder I usually drain most of the water I don't really like it soupy I like it more thicker like noodles and then got my tuna spicy tuna soy and actually there's a chili sauce kind of hot sauce that they comes with this stuff is it's pretty powerful I don't always use it let's see if this is hot enough that's good so the street noodles garlic spicy garlic with spicy Thai chili tuna a little bit of soy sauce it's delicious good heavy duty canteen too it's not gonna flex or break on you so with one of those gel packs you would easily be able to boil water put it into a dehydrated meal set that aside let that do its thing put it back on continue boiling pull it off make a cup of coffee I don't know how economical those gel packs are I'll have to look into how much they are where you can get them I'll put like a link down below if I find them like on Amazon or something but you know for the not having to carry a fuel bottle or fuel canisters or those stinky tabs the I think these would be great still a little warm but it's just ash that's it just dumped it out it's like nothing in it that's amazing all right that's it for today I wanted to cook a little lunch and show you my new cook kit tell me what you think about this do you have experience with the Crusader cups of course they're you know not in the United States you have to get them either through some kind of distributor found mine on eBay through a U.S. distributor or you can of course you know pick them up in Europe and England this is the Crusader Mark II BCB I believe is the manufacturer of these so if you're interested in getting one look around they're a little pricey you know especially with shipping and tariffs and all that crap but it certainly is a really nice cook set and then tell me how would you make a lid for one of these because I need a lid I need to figure out how to make a lid and as always thanks for watching and do me a favor like and subscribe and leave me a comment down below we'll see you next time on the prepared wanderer
