Entire cities once stood where there is now nothing but open water. Across the world, ancient roads, temples, walls and settlements have been found beneath the sea, some swallowed by rising coastlines, others lost suddenly, and a few still leaving researchers with major questions about who built them, when they disappeared, and how much of the ancient world may still be underwater.
