Hello and welcome to highlights of stage 20 of La Vuelta a España.
Yesterday's winner there, Eddie Dunbar.
Mikel Landa signing autographs ahead of the start.
And a family affair there for Primoz Roglic.
So the route today is a challenging one.
The queen stage of this race, just under 5,000 meters of elevation.
Five categorized climbs, including the fearsome ascent of the Calado de Anguasin.
Do you know this last climb?
Because it's close to Sierra Nevada and many of you spend time here.
Have you seen it?
Yeah, it's a really nice climb.
It's a really hard climb, but it's actually one of my favorites in the area.
It's just really steady, steep the whole time.
But it's totally exposed in the sun.
And it starts with some really steep ramps.
But then after that, you can find a rhythm.
But no, it's an impressive climb.
Yeah, I think it will be a massive day.
Some GC guys trying to go in the breakaway like yesterday.
I think in the end it's almost the last day that you can make a difference.
So I think the teams will not save anything.
So I think it will be pure chaos until the first time we go to Monachil.
And then it's just all about the legs.
I think we can still get up Vuelta on our side.
And we will give it a try.
Yeah, there's nothing to be hiding anymore.
It's full gas racing.
And today it's going to be a one-to-one with GC riders.
Enric, Primoz, Gal, Carapaz only.
It's going to be a monster of a day.
And yeah, we still believe it's possible.
There was a ridiculously fast start to the stage.
But a 14-man group went clear incredibly.
At one point with six riders from Uno X involved.
A few of those were dropped.
And the peloton was around 11 minutes behind.
But incredibly, there was a big group of 54 riders in between.
And it was at this point that Sepp Kuss took things into his own hands.
To try and bridge across to the group in front.
Movistar doing the controlling at this point.
And that was up the Puerto del El Perque.
This man was absolutely irrepressible all day long.
Richard Carapaz, the first of a series of stinging attacks to try and move up the GC.
He immediately bridged across to Sepp Kuss.
Both of them, of course, fighting against each other.
Not long ago in the Tour de France on Alpe d'Huez.
Meanwhile, up in front, there was an instant reaction from Decathlon CMA CGM.
Felix Goll sensing the danger posed by Richard Carapaz.
And was happy to drag the small group of GC contenders over the climb.
Oscar Onley was starting to suffer in the white jersey.
And lost contact from the group.
Just going over the top of the El Perque for the first time.
Carapaz and a couple of teammates who dropped back from the second group on the road.
Eager to make inroads.
Although he was caught on the first occasion.
The second time Sepp Kuss managed to go clear.
Walt Bernard was one of the few riders up in front.
But he was struggling on the steep slopes of the penultimate climb of the day.
The Puerto del Duque.
Finn Fischer-Black also there.
Three riders were in front at the moment.
Tobias Halland-Johannesson.
Mikel Landa.
And Ramses de Bruyne of Alpecin Premier Tech.
There was a real Mexican standoff behind.
Track stands all round.
Tactics being deployed.
Richard Carapaz maybe not overly happy with the tactics of Felix Gall.
And for a moment they were neutralized before Carapaz tried to strike again.
And this time Felix Gall was glued to the wheel of the flying Ecuadorian.
Who is intent on causing damage today.
With 17km to go.
The gap from the front of the race to the group containing mass was in excess of eight minutes.
Making inroads though was Sepp Kuss.
He got a couple of teammates with him for company.
Including Jorgen Nordhagen.
Meanwhile at the front of the race.
Mikel Landa was piling on the pressure.
And eventually dropped both of his breakaway compatriots.
Johannesson struggling to stay in contact with the flying Basque rider.
And de Bruyne also fading.
That familiar climbing style.
11 years since his previous win in the Vuelta a España.
A disappointing season so far.
But a great day for Landa.
Meanwhile Mass had a little bit of company.
Felix Gall was certainly on a roll.
After chasing Carapaz on numerous occasions.
He hit out on his own and immediately gapped Enric Mass.
His ambition to try and move above Primoz Roglic on the overall standings.
Primoz Roglic was back with Carapaz.
But meanwhile up in front with under a kilometer to go.
Mikel Landa was on the ride of his life.
An unexpected one but a beautiful one.
Mass briefly fought back.
But couldn't contain.
Felix Gall.
500 meters to go though for Mikel Landa of Sudal Quickstep.
Grinding out the last few meters.
Almost in disbelief Mikel Landa took his third stage win in the Vuelta.
But with an 11 years gap.
What a victory from the man from the Basque country.
The first victory for Sudal Quickstep in this race.
Nursing Sepp Kuss to the line was Jorgen Nordhagen.
What a ride by the American.
Vaulting up to fifth place on the GC.
Superb ride as well by Felix Gall.
Trying to create a wedge in between him and Primoz Roglic.
Ultimately it wasn't to be.
But this man.
Riding supreme in red.
What a Vuelta it has been.
And all barring accidents Mass will be crowned the victor.
Fighting all the way to the line though was Primoz Roglic.
Defending that second place overall.
And he did it as well.
Securing second in the Vuelta.
But what a day for Enric Mass.
This man will finally be crowned the victor of the Vuelta tomorrow.
And of course Mikel Landa.
Almost in a state of total disbelief.
At 36 years of age.
A crowning victory.
So Mikel Landa taking the win ahead of Tobias Johannesson.
Then we have Ramses de Bruyne.
Paul Mikel.
Baradei.
Hurt.
Nordhagen.
A resurgent Kuss.
Calzoni.
And Lorenzo Fortunato.
What can you say about this man though.
What a Vuelta it has been.
Four times on the podium in this race.
And finally.
With one day to go.
He's staring victory in the face.
So Enric Mass.
All he has to do is get round Granada safely.
Mass still leaving Roglic by 2.15.
Gol, Carapaz, Kuss.
The big gainer on the day.
Onley falling to sixth.
Despite falling to sixth place on the GC.
Oskar Onley of the net company Ineos.
Stays safely in the white jersey.
So Oskar Onley.
With a 1 minute and 10 second advantage over Jakob Ornzell.
Then with Leo Bisio in third place.
I feel very happy.
Something that I've been looking for a long time.
And finally I win again.
We had a plan to try to just go in the crosswinds.
And I'm super proud of the team.
They did a super job.
And Rasmus and Kort, Dalby, Kroon.
And then Andreas did a super job again today.
So I really felt I could fight for the win.
But in the end it wasn't enough.
And I'm disappointed.
No, it was just amazing being part of it.
I had goosebumps the whole day.
Just fun to go out and race.
I mean most of this race I've kind of had a bittersweet feeling.
Just not been able to race like I wanted.
Everything plays out in a way that's different than you expect.
But no, today I really enjoyed.
It was like a playground out there with all these steep climbs.
So yeah, just happy to be part of the team effort.
Discounting the kilometres.
And yeah, my feeling was super.
So yeah, the team did again a super good job.
If it's...
I won because the team did everything for me.
So thank you.
Let's look ahead to the final stage.
Starting on the edge of Granada and finishing in the centre of this city.
Sure to be an entertaining day's racing.
Maybe one for the classic specialists.
And finally, Enric Mas should be crowned as the winner of the Vuelta.
