Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe creators of Smashing English announce they are expecting a baby in January. They reassure viewers that channel content will remain consistent through scheduled videos and new resources. The video also follows their trip to Chester for baby shopping and food, blending personal life updates with natural English vocabulary and phrasal verbs.
Good morning, good afternoon and good evening. Welcome to Smashing English.
Bit of a different video today. We have some news.
Yes, I'm going to Turkey to have a hair transplant.
No, it's not really the announcement. We are having a baby.
So, we wanted to let you know because obviously you're going to notice.
Having a baby is quite a visual thing.
But I don't think a lot will change on the channel because we have been busy in 2026
filming lots and lots of videos. So, I actually don't think a lot will change on the channel.
No, you shouldn't notice much. I don't think because the plan is we're going to try to
schedule videos. So, even when the baby comes and I don't want to be making videos for
three months, let's say, there will be scheduled videos.
And the videos are all kind of a bit random. So, if you see a video where I've got a massive bump
and then the next video it's down like this, it's because they were filmed at different times and
we're just releasing them as we can.
And because the baby is coming, we are in the process of making
lots of cool English resources, English courses for you.
Rather than the baby making this channel suffer, I actually think it's going to make this channel
much more exciting.
It's been a kick up the backside.
It has because we suddenly now are doing all of the projects that we have wanted to do for years.
Now, we know that we have this deadline because we're going to have less time when the baby is
here.
Yeah, the baby's coming in January.
January. So, we have until January. Well, until kind of end of December, really.
Yeah. So, if you're watching this in February 2027. So, this is old news.
Old news. Baby's here.
Yesterday's news.
So, yeah. So, basically, what we want to say is things aren't going to change,
but be a little bit more patient with us, maybe.
If you have ever thought about buying one of our courses or becoming a member of the channel,
if you've ever thought about it and you're not sure, now would be a great time.
We'd really appreciate your support more than ever now because we're both self-employed.
So, we don't receive any kind of maternity pay or anything.
So, we have to kind of prep for a time where I can't really work.
There is no company that is paying us for our lost time because of the baby.
Exactly. So, no pressure at all. We are not saying, oh my goodness, buy everything.
But if you have thought about it and you think, not sure,
if this is an extra little motivation, just know that you will be supporting
not a big company, just two first-time parents.
So, I'm very excited to go shopping and just have a mooch around, to be honest. No obligation.
Yeah, just have a browse, a mooch.
We're going to go to Chester, which is a bit far away,
but we've heard that there's some nice shopping in Chester and I like Chester.
Yeah, yeah. And we have some friends around there that we might visit. So, yeah, I'm excited.
Let's get in the car. I'm hungry now, actually.
I'm actually very hungry. There is a food market in Chester.
Let's go. Let's go.
We are in Chester. I had a nap on the way because I am so tired.
I think that's my main symptom is I'm just knackered.
There's a very British English word for you. Knackered.
I need some food.
There is too much choice here. I have no idea what I want.
Oh, there's a fish seafood situation.
Well, that looks very nice, Laura.
You know what?
Right. There is a dedicated baby shop about seven minutes away,
so I'm just looking it up on the map and then we'll head there.
We found a very cute little shop and we went in, but we didn't buy anything
because this one's a cheap skinny.
We didn't want to spend £18 on a rattle in the shape of a turnip.
It's a turnip, Raoul. It's a turnip shaped rattle.
It was a rattle, but it looked like a turnip.
It's funny.
Listen, I wanted it, but this guy said we shouldn't spend £18 on it.
Can you hear that? That's this.
So, Laura, what are you looking to find in this Jojo shop?
Baby essentials, because I'm doing a lot of online browsing,
but I want to see it in person.
I want to see the things that I'm looking at online.
Do you know what I mean? I want to see what the prams look like.
So you're not actually going to buy anything.
It's more just to see what it looks like.
If I see a good deal, if I see a bargain, I'll buy it.
But I'm mostly intrigued by just...
Oh, that's the office of our accountant.
I'm mostly intrigued by...
I just want to put my hands on it, you know?
I want to feel stuff.
I know what you mean. Yeah, test it out.
Get a feel for it.
Yeah.
Okay, I understand.
Where is it?
What's it called?
It's called Jojo Mamo Bebe.
It must be French.
Okay, so according to this map, it should be there.
It doesn't look like a baby shop.
I'll be honest.
I think it's that.
I think it's moved.
I think it's this.
I just went to use the loo in a coffee shop,
and the ceiling was so low that when I stood up,
I whacked my head on the ceiling.
Did you?
Yeah, I stood up and went doof.
I whacked my head.
Oh no, are you okay?
Oh no.
Yeah, I'll be fine.
That's code for no, I will not be fine.
Oh no.
It's because I'm tall.
In about half an hour, you're going to go,
I've got a headache.
Well, oh.
Yeah, there's something really special about Chester.
We've been a couple of times.
I really like it.
But we will save all of that for our Chester vlog.
Right, we're in TK Maxx, which can be a bit of a jumble sale.
My mum says that a lot.
A jumble sale is where you go to buy things off someone
and they just have all their stuff everywhere.
It's a bit chaotic, but you get some good deals here.
Is that how big it'll be?
I hope not.
Could it be that big?
Well, she will be that big eventually.
I suppose, but what age will she be that big?
Two.
So you've got to practice here at the hospital
and they hand you your baby.
What do you do if they say, if she looks like this?
There's your baby.
She looks like her mother.
£4 for, I think we get two of these.
Hang on, gender stereotype.
Should I get the blue as well?
Well, I don't know, blue and pink?
Yeah, let's get the blue as well.
Because just because she's a girl
doesn't mean she has to have everything pink.
Well, your instinct was to just grab the pink ones.
No, I know, you're very right.
That looks so cute.
Okay, fine, we've got some hangers.
I'm a huge loser because one of my favourite shops
is a health food shop where they sell like nuts
and low processed snacks.
So I'm going in there.
I'll get two of these because we do go through,
we go through a lot of these 100% dark chocolate buttons.
So I'll get two of them.
It's my favourite biscuits ever.
Look how happy I am.
Okay, on the way home.
It wasn't a super successful shopping trip.
Unfortunately.
I don't think we ever have a super successful shopping trip, Laura.
We are very reluctant.
We are very reluctant to spend money.
It's terrible.
We're never good at just shelling out.
There's a good phrasal verb.
Very good.
To shell out means to spend a lot of money.
So we're never good at shelling out on...
Never.
Anything that costs more than about 20 pounds.
I do think, I do think sometimes you have a day
where it just happens.
It's like a domino effect.
You spend one, you spend 30 pounds in one shop
and suddenly the floodgates are open.
Yeah.
The floodgates are open.
And suddenly...
It's unstoppable.
Yeah, it's unstoppable.
And suddenly just spending a lot of money.
So...
But we bought some little things.
We bought the baby hangers.
And bought some choc...
Some...
Oh, it's our friend.
Hey, our friend.
We met our friend for a drink because he was busking.
Like I said, yeah.
He was busking and now we're next to him in the car.
So yeah, we're going to go home.
But thank you so much for watching this.
