AI GeneratedA medical professional shares a \"day in the life\" vlog, balancing a hectic morning rush and a quiet hospital shift with personal errands, content creation, and studying. The video highlights the duality of her life as a doctor and an influencer, concluding with her reflections on her career and a passion for reading.
It feels like I was just here. That's because I was.
I'm getting tired guys.
There is nothing more humbling than to take photos of yourself in a public setting.
I'm so confused. Good morning everybody. We are in such a rush this morning
because I woke up so late. It's currently 7 26 and handover is at 8.
And I was like maybe I shouldn't film today because I did have plans of waking up early
and you know doing my makeup and making my breakfast but this is gonna have to do.
Oh my gosh I'm in so many events.
For what I want to wear today.
I'm just wearing this because we have to wear hospital scrubs
so I'm just gonna change into it when I'm there.
And then of course my compression socks.
God this is not one of my better looks.
I feel so frazzled this morning but at least the sun is out which is quite nice.
Time is at 7 34.
I mean okay I made some sushi last night.
I have this persistent headache right here for like two days now.
All right everybody um apologies for such a grimy hectic morning.
This is as realistic as it gets so I am off.
I have day call today from 8 to 4 and we're gonna do a lot of things today.
I don't even know what I'm saying anymore.
Okay let's go.
I'm getting tired guys.
I'm so sweaty but it's 7 51 so we're making great time.
It feels like I was just here.
That's because I was.
A lot of you guys have asked where my undershirts are from
and this is just the Oritzia home stretch.
Hospital scrubs, my call thingamabobs and then always in my compression socks and my Birkenstocks.
I found the new call room that I'm supposed to be in and it's low-key bougie.
It's kind of funny.
I have this little cubby with the same plants.
Yes I love it and then little lamps here.
The bed and the chair.
My little desk setup over here.
It's like very strangely homey especially compared to the hustle and bustle of my last call shift.
It is very strange that I have this little bit of free time
so I think I'm gonna try and optimize it by doing some reviewing on my iPad.
So today in particular I really want to review the fetal heart tracings
just because in my last call shifts that's something that I identified that I really need to work on.
So fetal heart tracing is really just a way to see how baby is doing
whether they're getting enough oxygenation
and it shows baby's heart rate in relation to mom's contractions and it's very go go go.
It's kind of like an ECG tracing where it's continuous
so you're just watching this monitor and seeing how it's going
and it was a little bit scary because I didn't feel that I really had it down pat
so today I'm going to be reviewing on my iPad.
So I do pretty much all of my studying on my iPad because I'm such a visual learner
and the one thing that has been with me through and through is my Paperlike screen protector.
If you've ever tried writing on a normal iPad screen
it literally feels like you're writing on a slippery piece of glass because you are
but Paperlike has this textured surface made with their nano dots technology
so it gives you the perfect amount of resistance and feedback
to make you feel like you're actually writing on paper.
Especially when I'm writing for hours it makes my handwriting feel way more controlled and legible
and I don't feel like my hand is constantly fighting the screen.
I've been using Paperlike for years ever since I switched to digital note-taking in university
and I genuinely cannot imagine using my iPad without her.
Also their butterfly applicator makes putting it on so easy.
I hate applying screen protectors because I always somehow get dust or bubbles underneath
and you can see in my previous video where I was installing it that I did not have this issue at all.
And Paperlike also kindly sent me a few things to refresh my setup for back to school
so now let's do a little bit of an unboxing.
I seem to draw off my iPad constantly so I got their folio case to protect my beautiful iPad.
I got their ergonomically shaped apple pencil grips for longer study sessions
and also their new charcoal pencil tips
which are made to be up to 10 times more durable than the original apple tips.
So she's officially getting her full back to school makeover
even though my version of back to school now is I guess studying fetal heart tracings before I shift.
Thank you so much to Paperlike for sponsoring this part of the video.
I'll have everything linked down below if you want to check out my iPad setup.
And now back to work.
Alright so I'm teaching you guys but I'm mostly teaching myself.
These are the different kinds of decelerations.
This here is baby's heart rate and this here are the maternal contractions.
You can have the early decelerations where you see that the nadir
which is the lowest part of the heart rate is pretty much in time with mom's contraction
and that typically means something like head compression.
Hey everybody, we're now home.
It is 5 p.m and I still have this horrific tension headache.
So because of this stupid headache,
I'm going to try and take it a little bit easier for the rest of the day.
I had plans to maybe go for a run or do some weight lifting
but I have a feeling that it's just going to worsen my headache.
I just feel like the ball solving is just going to really exacerbate things.
So I don't want to put myself in a worse spot than I already am.
First thing that I want to do is a little bit of an unboxing.
I got two things in the mail.
One of Erin's relatives coming from Australia
and so I wanted to set up the daybed for her to stay for a couple of days
and I just ordered these 100% cotton pillowcases.
They're striped.
They're so cute.
And then the next package always welcome to see is the big package.
Oh my god, she's so cute.
A super fun color.
Gorgeous calamansi plant which is really fair and fruit.
Deja vu from this morning.
So I'm in a rush once again
but just because the stores that I want to visit are closing.
It's almost 6 p.m and I want to go to Cotton today
to get some new towels for our guest
and I also want to go to the plant shop to get some flowers
and also a new house plant to replace my one that just died.
I get some comments being like,
how are you so good at taking care of plants?
Guys, I'm not one literally just died.
But today very excitingly, I also want to take some Instagram pictures
with my new top from Cezanne.
So it is so fun that I have time to do this after my day call today.
It really does feel Hannah Montana-y
going to the hospital and coming home to get ready for my little solo photo shoot.
Hi guys, it's obviously getting a bit darker.
I always somehow end up in my favorite park Trinity Bellwoods
and this is where I had a little solo photo shoot.
There is nothing more humbling than to take photos of yourself in a public setting.
I really feel like influencers in the wild but that's part of the job.
So I kind of have to do what I have to do and I have all my pictures.
I'm going to insert them here.
Special delivery.
Hi everybody, we are now back from our excursion and it was really successful.
I'm so happy that I got everything that I wanted.
So I went to this really great flower shop over on Queen West.
If any of you have ever met me in person or have seen me vlog in real life,
it's me awkwardly standing like trying to capture b-roll.
And while I was getting b-roll at this place,
one of you very lovely subscribers named Rachel.
Rachel, if you're seeing this, shout out you girl.
Came up and you're so sweet and she was like, hi, are you Sam?
And I'm like, yeah, that's me.
And I was like, I'm so sorry, I'm so sweaty.
I've only been recognized a handful of times,
which is insane that you guys have seen me in real life.
And everyone's always so lovely and so sweet, but I never know what to do.
You know that the plant shop that I got it from is legit
because they have the beautiful orchid bark in the clear plastic container,
which is my favorite because you can see the roots inside.
And she is just a stunner.
For dinner, bits and bobs.
Duck chicken congee from Congee Queen.
But like half a cup of it left.
Fried rice and then a bit of my sushi bake that I made yesterday.
So reflections from today.
Oh my gosh, guys, that day call shift was so quiet.
It was in such contrast to my overnight call shift
because that was just very, very, very, very busy.
This one I saw one patient.
So it really is variable what you get.
And I'm very lucky that I had a chill day that ended up for it.
Afterwards, it was really lovely.
I was able to get my Instagram pictures.
And we're going to see how that footage looks because I was so awkward.
I'm so grateful that this is also part of my job.
I get questions all the time from people if I would ever leave medicine,
which number one, my mom would kill me.
I've invested so much into this career and I derive so much joy from it
that I would never want to quit it to pursue content creation full time.
And it is a little bit macabre when I think about being on my deathbed
and looking back on my life.
I feel like it would just be so much regret in leaving my career in medicine
and my commitment to helping people and leaving that for content creation,
which also does help people in another way.
It's just there's no way I would be happy with that.
I turned the AC on and I regret it.
Have a little bit of reviewing to do this evening.
It is so late.
Today, I wanted to review hypercalcemia because guess what?
I just don't get it.
And here is my very quick review of hypercalcemia on my iPad in relation to PTH.
I believe I left my favorite cleansing balm when I was in Ottawa for the weekend
and it's driving me insane.
And apparently, it's the only makeup remover that I have.
So I just googled and apparently, you can use a petroleum jelly.
And this is the medical one that I have.
So hopefully, I can just put that on this cotton pad and get rid of my...
By the way, it's so thick.
Is it working?
I'm still chasing that mind all the time, babe.
I, I, I need you.
You, you, you need me too.
Be sorry if you guys sponsored me for my Zima.
That is my nighttime skincare.
Okay, everybody.
So it is now...
God knows it's so late.
But I'm going to do a little bit of reading to help me fall asleep.
And I just wanted to have a quick book chat about the book that I finished
and now the book that I am starting.
One of my favorite books ever is small things like these.
And then I've been trying to read her entire collection.
So I read So Late in the Day, which was amazing.
And then I just finished Foster, which was also amazing.
So Claire is a three for three for me.
I feel like I'm really high up.
One second.
Yeah, I honestly just adore her writing.
I feel like every time that I read her book, I am transported into rural Ireland.
And I just feel the emotions of her character so deeply.
She is so gifted at creating a scene.
And I feel like I visualize it so easily just because of her prose.
She's phenomenal.
So as I saw a bit earlier, I had a quick pit stop at the bookstore
because it was near the hospital.
And I picked up Yesteryear,
which I feel like everybody and their moms have been talking about.
From my understanding, it's supposed to be some kind of satirical novel about tradwives
and one that is transported to sometime in the 1800s
to live out the tradwife duties that they boast about on social media.
So I'm going to be reading my book in bed as always.
Thank you guys so much for watching.
And I will see you in the next one.
Bye!
