Charleston Lake Provincial Park – Rediscovering a Peaceful Ontario Gem! In this episode, we visit one of the most tranquil parks we’ve experienced in a long time — Charleston Lake Provincial Park, located in eastern Ontario, northeast of Kingston. It’s been nearly 30 years since our last visit, and we’d forgotten just how beautiful this place is. From peaceful forested campsites to sparkling lakeside sunsets, Charleston Lake is the perfect mix of relaxation and outdoor adventure. We stayed in Shady Ridge Campground, a shady retreat true to its name, and even discovered a short path leading to a private rock terrace overlooking the lake — the perfect morning coffee spot. And our first night’s campfire? It actually sparkled with fireflies! The park features 239 campsites across three campgrounds, two sandy beaches (and a dog-friendly one), canoe and kayak rentals, excellent hiking trails, and even a few surprises — like an 8-foot black rat snake at the Discovery Centre! We’ll also share nearby finds like Twist’s Outlet for ice cream, and a local blueberry farm worth the stop.
