And now at 11, the big story in Action News is the latest on a small plane crash in Montgomery County
and the ensuing investigation into what happened and why. This was a scene at around 7 15 this
evening at the Heritage Field Airport on West Ridge Pike in Limerick Township. The single
engine aircraft overturned after crashing. The pilot, the only person on board, was removed from
the wreckage and rushed to the hospital. Action News reporter Elizabeth Worthington live at the
airport with new details tonight. Elizabeth. That plane was actually just taken away from the scene.
This is as close as we've been able to get to the airfield all night. We just watched as
crews used some heavy equipment to turn that plane upright and then move it away from the
scene. Now we're told that the pilot was attempting to land here at Heritage Field
Airport tonight, but officials do not know at this point where he was coming from.
Chopper six shows the aftermath. A small plane upside down on a grassy area near the runway
at Heritage Field Airport in Limerick Township. The crash happened around 7 15 on Wednesday night.
The Heritage staff was in the process of removing the pilot from the plane. We got reports of the
pilot was trapped in the plane. Upon our arrival, they were pulling him out, so there was no
extrication needed by the fire department. Officials say the pilot was the only person on board.
He was taken to Reading Trauma Center. Limerick Fire Chief Ken Shuler didn't have an official
update on his condition, but said he seemed to be talking and everything when he left the scene
here, but I don't have any other information on him. This video was shared with Action News by
Kevin Little, a photographer who lives nearby. He happened to be taking photos of the plane
and recorded this video just minutes before it went down. After the crash, there was fuel
leaking from one of the plane's wings, so firefighters remained on the scene as crews
worked to upright the plane. We have absorbent pads under it right now, just keeping an eye on
it so in case anything lights off, but for the most part, we're just standing by just in case
so they get this thing turned over. And again, that plane has been moved out of the way, so
everything is safe here at the airport at this point. Limerick Township has been in contact with
both the FAA and the NTSB, that's the National Transportation Safety Board. No word yet on
whether they will be coming here to the scene tomorrow, but the cause of that crash is still
under investigation. We are live in Limerick Township tonight. Elizabeth
