Interior designer Laura Butler takes us through the garden of her Cotswolds farmhouse in England — the space that, along with the house, made her fall for the property, and which she now calls her dream garden.

It unfolds in zones. The formal garden right off the kitchen is for evening drinks and morning coffee, planted around an old rose arch that came with the house — when one rose died, Laura embraced the loss of symmetry and added a clematis, with wisteria set to explode across the doors and arches next year. Beyond it, an orchard holds six or seven varieties of apple, pears, and ancient plum trees so fruitful the family makes jam every year, while a full veg patch feeds a household that loves nothing more than eating from the garden.

Laura is the plant-lover and nurturer; Patrick handles the mowing and heavy lifting. Her advice for anyone starting out is simply to start — go to the garden center, follow your gut, put what you love in the ground, and water it. Between the chickens, the changing seasons, and the produce, it's a garden that quite literally inspired her to bottle the English seasons into a fragrance brand.
