Video Summary
AI GeneratedKevin takes two elderly lioness sisters, Echo and Niobe, on an enrichment walk near a dam. The focus is on allowing the 18-year-old lions to explore at their own pace, whether that involves walking or simply resting. The video highlights their resilience, their unique personalities, and the importance of sanctuary memberships in supporting the care of senior animals.
Hello my girlies. Are we going walking?
Good girl. Here we go. Nice. Hey Echo. No. Echo. Are you becoming the new Gabby?
Are you the new Gabby? Tearing the car to pieces. Come Echo. Let's go. Echo. Oi. Come girlie.
Don't you start. No bee. All right. Let's go. Come. Come. Let's go. Oh. All right guys. Good
morning. Good morning. Good morning. Today we are taking Echo and Niobe out for an enrichment walk
or in this case maybe an enrichment lie down. And that's the beauty about these walks is that
the lions can do whatever they want to do. So we take them to an area where we know they like,
like this dam area, and we let them out and we let them just do whatever they want to do. If they
want to go running and clawing the trees, fantastic. If they just want to lie down and enjoy
the breeze and the smells and just sit here pondering life, fantastic. Also not a problem
with me. So Echo and Niobe, for those of you who do know, you'll know that they are quite elderly.
And for those of you who don't, they're actually 18 year old lionesses, sisters. They used to live
with a lion called the Catnip King called Siam. He passed away unfortunately last year. So they've
been on their own ever since. And there are two very interesting old cats. This one in particular
has such a personality. Niobe lying down there. Yeah. Age just doesn't seem to catch up with her.
And despite what life's thrown at her, she's bounced back. At one stage of her life,
she was completely blind. She had a cataract in the one eye and severe glaucoma in the left eye.
We had to remove her left eye. And miracles do happen because the cataract actually resorbed
in the right eye and, yeah, that allowed her to see again.
So she can see, as can Echo. Hello, my darling. No, no, don't chew that. No, no, no, no.
You want to chew my camera? No, no.
Echo is definitely the more serious out of the two,
but that doesn't stop her from having her little moments. And even this morning, a little Gabby
moment where she started taking interest in the vehicle, which hasn't happened before.
Certainly the pace that these two walk at is, yeah, not energetic. Not by a long shot.
And generally the walks with Echo and Irby are not very long due to the age. They don't like to
walk that far, but they do have, you know, some fun in the sun around the
dam area and they do like to walk a bit. Come girls, let's go. Come. Come on. Let's go. Come.
Let's go. Let's get into our walk. Come on, you two. Yeah, there we go. There we go, Nabi.
Good girl. Come Echo. Don't be lazy. Oh, we are into our walk. It's probably a good time
to just break away from this video to give a shout out to one of our members.
All right. Welcome back to the walk. Not much has transpired since I left you.
Echo hasn't joined us yet. I think she is on her way. I did see some movement there and
now Irby is still just enjoying walking down the road. So yeah. So if you also want to be
one of those members that's recognized and given a mention in one of the videos,
do go and check out memberships, guys. Those members are the ones that really keep this
channel afloat. It's not just a fee that goes nowhere. It does go towards making the content
as well as helping support these beautiful babies and grannies and grandpas here at the sanctuary
so they can live the best possible lives. I love that play. Even amongst grannies. Where have you
been, eh? Look at them out and about. They just are so happy just to be able to do their own thing.
Hello, Echo. I don't think you've got much more in you, eh? Now Irby is like going, yeah, well,
let's just park off here a bit. And so is Echo. All right.
One thing I did want to do today, haven't had time to do, is just give her a bit of a claw inspection.
Okay, no, she doesn't want that. So it's interesting how when they're younger they
really don't mind you touching their claws, but as they get older, I think it's also the
arthritis and whatnot, is that it tends to be a little bit more tender. So whereas in the past
I used to be able to unsheathe the claw and really give it a good inspection, now I can see her
flaring her lip. Yeah, don't want to annoy granny. Eh, grandma? Oh, look at the little
butterfly. That's very cute. On your nose. It's a little butterfly companion.
Ah, there it goes. Friendly little butterfly.
I have given you me, my skies to sit under. It's human nature to always aspire to more.
That is what has made us a successful species, but it is also to our detriment.
We are coming closer to one shared fate, where you and I will have little choice but to stand
face to face. Why don't people care? I think the answer is it doesn't affect them. Perhaps
we go back into the eyes we wore when our bodies were still small.
Perhaps we see a flower without picking it. Perhaps we let the beautiful survive.
Still such good girls. All that's left for me to say, guys, is until next time from me, Kevin. Bye.
